In memory of

Nancy Hodgins

1958 - 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Nancy Hodgins (nee Cotterman) on December 1, 2025. Nancy was born on December 27, 1958, in Geraldton, Ontario to Sidney and Dorothy Cotterman, and spent her early years moving across Ontario with her family before settling in Kirkland Lake. It was there that she attended school and met the love of her life, Ted, with whom she shared 48 years of marriage.

Together, Nancy and Ted welcomed five children: Kory (Jennifer), Matthew (predeceased), Lindsay (Christos), Taylor (Brandon), and Adam, all of whom will deeply miss her fiery presence, her strength, and her unwavering love. Nancy was especially proud of her grandchildren — Payten, Emily, Alex, Liam, Hannah, Jack, and Kosta — and her two great-grandsons, Maverick and Waylon, who brought her so much joy.

Nancy is also survived by her loving brothers, David and Michael Cotterman, and by lifelong friends Buzz and Nyla Koomans, whose weekly Saturday lunches were moments she always cherished.

A devoted animal lover, Nancy opened her heart to many dogs throughout her life. Her beloved pups Oakley and Bentley lit up her days, especially in her later years. Though she lived in long-term care, she visited with them whenever possible and video-chatted often just to see their faces. Her love for animals was constant and unwavering.

Nancy had a playful spirit and a curiosity that made life lively: her love of dramatic television shows, wonderfully awful movies, meals filled with far too many mushrooms, and her passion for keeping everyone updated — even when the “news” came from the more questionable corners of the internet — brought humour and warmth to those around her. Her resilience, dry humour, and steady strength shaped her family in lasting ways.

For the past seven years, Nancy received exceptional care from the Kirkland Lake Dialysis Department, a place where she formed strong bonds and felt truly supported. We wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to Stacey, Paula, Brittany & Jenna, Dr. Moore, Suzanne Perreault, Erika, Jenn, Samantha, and all of the other compassionate staff at Teck Pioneer, who cared for Nancy with dedication and kindness.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Health Sciences North Foundation ? Kirkland Lake Dialysis Unit by mail to Kirkland Lake Dialysis Unit, Blanche River Health, 145 Government Road East Kirkland Lake, ON P2N 3P4, in honour of the remarkable care they provided to Nancy throughout her journey.

Nancy will be remembered for her resilience, her stubborn determination, her quiet kindness, and the love she poured into her family, friends, and every animal lucky enough to cross her path. Her legacy lives on in all who knew and loved her.

A celebration of life & internment will take place in the Spring of 2026 where family and friends are welcome to join and share their memories of Nancy.

Some people you meet in life leave quiet marks on your heart, the kind that stay long after their hands are gone from yours. Nancy was one of those souls. Nancy was so much more to me than a resident. She became a part of my heart in a way I never expected. She brought out a softer version of me, and reminded me why care is so much more than just a job, it’s a connection, a privilege and sometimes a friendship. She was the light and the calm in my busy days, we spent countless hours curled up watching one of my favourite shows, Chicago fire (that she alway said she didnt like but i knew she secretly liked it too) choosing movies, doing her nails and laughing till our cheeks hurt like two kids with a secret and so many things that made the moment so warm. She let me into her world with such trust and kindness. I will always be grateful for all the moments we shared. Her love for ted, all her kids and grandchildren, her strength and sense of humour are things I will carry with me forever. It was an honour to care for her, but even more of an honour to know her. I will miss you deeply and I will remember you always ❤️🐾
