It is with heavy hearts the family of Luc Jean-Marie Desmarais, announce his sudden passing
on September 13, 2026 at the age of 71. Luc was greeted at heaven’s gates by his loving wife
Paulette, his parents Jean-Marie and Omerette, his father and mother in-law Romeo Sr. and
Edith Perrier, his brothers in-law Romeo Jr.,Wayne Sr, and Dennis as well his sister in law
Jeanine and nephew Lance.
Luc leaves behind to cherish his memories, his loving spouse Radmilla, his children
Christopher Desmarais (Jody), Tammy Demers (Dan), Kristy St Jean (Benny), along with his
grandchildren that he was so very proud of, Daxx, Atticus, Maddox, Allyson, Jena, Carter,
Carson, Sadie. Left to mourn is also his extended family; including his step son’s Adam
Gasper, Matthew Gasper (Melina), step grandchildren Braden and Mila, and his adopted
daughter Kristin Rivett.
Luc’s memory will also live on through his brother in-law Raymond Perrier (Susie) and sister’s
in-law Linda and Beckey Perrier, his close cousins Robert Fleury and Carole Gravel, his
extended in-laws Bobby Malkovich, Vesna Lee (Ted), and Cathy Botton (Mike), as well as his
many nieces, nephews and friends.
Luc was proud to be a part of the Holy Name Catholic Church, serving as a parish Councillor
for many years. He was a 3rd Degree Knight (Knight’s of Columbus). He was also a member of
the Swastika Volunteer Fire Brigade and an affiliate member of the Legion Branch 87. He
started his long career at Macassa Mine in Kirkland Lake where he spent his career as the Mill
Superintendent. He was devoted to his career and retired in 2018 after working for over 40
years.
He was also proud to be a part of the Flying Father’s, working alongside Father Les Costello,
Msgr Patrick Lafleur, and Dan Bagley, among many others, in their fundraising efforts for the
church.
Luc passed his time spending most Saturday nights playing his guitar or keyboard with the
Perrier clan. He also enjoyed playing cards, chess, gardening, fishing, carpentry as well as
watching movies and sitcoms with Rad and his grandchildren.
He was proud to be a part of the community. He was a judge for many years in the Legion
public speaking competitions. As a member of the Knight’s of Columbus, he volunteered his
time towards running the bingo’s, family bbq’s and fun day’s, Christmas supper’s for those
living alone, as well as pre-marital couple counselling. Luc and Paulette opened their home
and hearts as foster parents for many children for many years. Luc also dedicated many years
to the Meal’s on Wheel’s program.
Luc, was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey on
this earth was one marked by love, compassion, and unwavering faith in God. His passing has
left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and many more whose lives were touched by him.
We ask that you remember him not for the way his life ended, but for the way it was lived, and
for the profound impact it had on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Although Luc’s physical presence may no longer grace our lives, his spirit will continue to
inspire and uplift us. May his memory be a blessing, and may we carry forth his legacy of love
and compassion in all that we do. As you continue to worship Jesus up there, dear Luc, your
light will forever shine brightly in our hearts.
The family would like to thank the many paramedics, doctors and nursing staff of the Blanche
River Health Hospital, Kirkland Lake Site, as well as Respiratory Therapist Jessica Thorpe for
their quality of care for their beloved father.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am Saturday October 3rd, 2026 at the Holy Name Catholic
Church. Msgr Patrick Lafleur will be officiating. A luncheon will follow immediately after at
Riverside Community Church gymnasium in Swastika.

As I sit and reflect, it was over 30 years ago, when I first met Luc. I started at the Macassa Mill. It wasn’t long before I was invited over for one of Paulette’s spaghetti dinners. Being a single guy new in town. I just Naturally became part of the family. Part of all family holidays get togethers, summer baseball, or just hanging out at Luc and Paulette’s on a Saturday night. I even had the pleasure of taking their young daughter Kristy to Phantom of the Opera. At the time she loved the performing art’s. I will never forget her face as see saw each act. Things you do with a family. And they were my family. My life moved on as I moved from Kirkland and started my own family. But I never forgot the kindness they showed me. Goodbye my Friend.

As a 17-year-old moving 10 hours away from home for the first time, I was so lucky to have such a close bond and second family with the St Jean’s. Pepere was a part of that for me. From the beginning, he welcomed me with open arms.
He was a great man who always took an interest in my hockey and how I was doing. He would always take time to check in with me. I’m super grateful for the conversations and time we got to share together, and I wish there could have been more.
