It is with sadness, but also gratitude for a long life well lived, that we announce the passing of Laurin Mackenzie Peever on June 10, 2026, at the age of 90.
Dad leaves behind his children Darlene, Robert (Maureen), Vivian, Jeffery, Lorri (Robbie), Grandchildren Tracy, Kelly (Michel), Sloane, Cash, and Great-Grandchildren Ryan, Jude, Alex and Emma. He is also survived by his sister Evelyn and many amazing nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Robert & Elizabeth, and siblings, Winnie, Ellen, Lyla, Florence, Violet, Dennie, Dick and Lorna.
Dad spent many years working for Ontario Northland Telecommunications retiring as Maintenance Foreman. His career took our family to several Northern Ontario communities, including Timmins, Ramore, New Liskeard, and eventually landing in Kirkland Lake. With all those moves, Tomstown was always home to him.
To those who knew him best, Dad was a quiet, humble man who never sought attention and rarely asked for anything for himself. He simply showed up, worked hard, and put his family first. He was happiest outdoors, whether hunting, fishing, camping or working with the horses.
While Dad never liked being in the spotlight, one of the defining moments of his life showed the character he carried every day. Coming upon a vehicle engulfed in flames, he put his own safety aside to help rescue two people trapped inside. He was recognized by the OPP Commissioner for this act of bravery.
Dad enjoyed life's simple pleasures; a game of cards, a family gathering, watching a Maple Leafs hockey game. He always had English mints or gum to share. He loved animals. He seemed able to fix, build, or macgyver just about anything. If something was broken, Dad would find a way to make it work.
In later years, Dad faced many challenges. Skin cancer gradually changed the handsome face that so many knew but it never changed his beautiful spirit. His kindness, sense of humour, determination, and gentle nature remained. More recently, dementia slowly took pieces of his memory and independence, but it never took away the love he had for his family, or the love we had for him.
When we think of Dad, we won't remember his illnesses. We'll remember a good man who lived with humility, courage, and a deep love for his family.
We would like to thank his neighbours for their random acts of kindness, Kathleen from Closing the Gap, Dave and the Community Paramedics and the 4th floor nursing staff.
In keeping with Laurin’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family gathering will follow at a later date.
We love you, Dad. Thank you for everything.

Truly a gentle man, he set the bar pretty high on how good men move through life with purpose and quiet determination, I will miss our trout fishing conversations that always left us laughing.

*sigh*.. Of my long list of favourite uncles, Laurie was always at the top. A highlight of our annual "cousins weekend" was when Laurie would come in with a case of beer for the gang..and a couple of pies. I looked forward to his storytelling with uncle Dick, always with a chuckle and smile. Mom (Violet) adored her brothers, and it was easy to understand why. It is a beautiful obituary, obviously written by a family who truly loved their father. Such wonderful memories you all have. XO. Tomye Anne

It was always nice when Uncle Laurie broght the gang to family gatherings at Ellen and Logies house (still don't know how we all fit in).
Such a kind man wherever he went. He will be missed by all.

We were sad to hear of Laurin’s passing. I know he had his struggles in his latter years, and although we just want them to be free of pain, it doesn’t hurt any less to have them no longer in our lives. I know how much he was loved and only wish for a gentle healing journey for you all.
May my support warm your heart

I am so sorry to hear of Uncle Laurie's passing. Growing up and attending the Peever Reunions, he was this quiet soft spoken man. The last reunion I attended, sitting there with all the aunties and uncles listening to their childhood stories and was surprised when Uncle Laurie and Uncle Dick recounted all the shenanigans they got up to. Too funny! Your wonderful tribute is spot on and he is surely going to be missed. Hugs to you all. Sandra

Sorry to hear of uncle Lauries passing. Our best to Darlene, Bobby, Viv, Jeff, Lorianne and Aunt Joan. Uncle Laurie was definitely one of the good guys for sure. Years ago, shortly after his retirement he asked me if I wanted a hand building our house, my quick response was absolutely! That's when we got to know each other much better and I soon found that his work ethic was second to none...so much so that he'd show up on the job before I did. He was pretty tough for his age, hoisting shingles and all. There were lots of stories and laughs shared during that gig. He will be missed.

I am so sorry to hear of Laurin’s passing. He was a friend of my husband’s but we were never formally introduced.
I ‘know’ him because this brave, kind and wonderful man, my angel, stopped on the highway and helped pull me out of a burning vehicle. My sister was already deceased but he helped save my life. If it wasn’t for his bravery, I would not be alive today.
I thought of this man so often throughout the years and thanked God he came along when he did. He will forever have a place in my heart. Rest in peace.
My condolences to his family.
