It is with great sadness that the family of Kenneth (Ken, Kenny) Clarence Gibbons, of Kirkland Lake, Ontario, announces his passing.
Ken passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on July 14, 2025, at Blanche River Health – Kirkland Lake Site, in his 73rd year.
Born in Englehart, Ontario, to Therese (née Chaylt) and Clarence (“Gibby”) Gibbons, Ken spent his formative years mostly in Scarborough before returning north to complete high school in Kirkland Lake. He went on to graduate from Northern College with a diploma in Chemical Engineering.
Ken began his career in the mining industry in Timmins and later became a long- distance truck driver. Although his organized sports career was limited to high school football and hockey, he was a natural swimmer who spent countless hours snorkelling in Larder Lake.
A lifelong music lover, Ken built an extensive CD collection spanning country, pop, and rock and roll. He played guitar proficiently and was known to belt out a tune — with or without an audience.
Like his father, Ken had a wonderful sense of humour and loved to share a good joke, often ending conversations with a recent favourite. A born risk-taker from a young age, he once hung himself upside down from a tree on a dare (his dad had to cut him down) and swatted a wasp nest just to see what would happen — earning himself more than a few stings.
As the eldest of six siblings, Ken was both mentor and tormentor growing up, but always the big brother who was deeply loved. Ken was predeceased by his father, Gibby, and his sister, Edwina (Tressie). He is survived by his children, Aaron (Nikky) and Kellianne (Luke); his cherished grandson, Ben; his former wives and mothers of his children, Cathy (mother of Aaron) and Wendy (mother of Kellianne); his siblings, Garry (Mary Eileen), Sandra (Wayne), Terry, and Mark (Natalie); his mother, Theresa; his aunt, Joan; as well as many cousins from the Gibbons and Chaylt family lines, nieces, and nephews. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
As per Ken’s wishes, no funeral services were held. He was cremated, and his remains have journeyed west to British Columbia to be with his daughter and grandson.
Family and friends will forever miss you.
Rest in peace, Ken.
