Heartbroken, we announce the passing of Jayne Auranen on October 4, 2026, at the
Kirkland Lake Hospital.
In true Jayne fashion, she left this world on her own terms with her cherished husband,
Leo, and her children, Katherine and Evan, by her side.
Born July 20, 1957, in Kirkland Lake to Ronald and Ruth (Janes) Parker, Jayne grew up
in and around Kirkland Lake, Swastika, and her beloved Nettie Lake where she enjoyed
her family cottage for close to 30 years.
Jayne shared her early years with her 1 st husband and father of her children, Barry
Quinn. Although their marriage ended, their friendship endured as they remained
committed to the family they started.
Jayne spent her last 25 years with the love of her life, Leo Auranen. They officially
married on her birthday in 2012 ensuring that he would never forget her birthday or their
anniversary because Jayne thought of everything. With the addition of Leo to her family,
she blessed her children with a devoted stepfather and a loving “Seta” to all their
grandchildren.
Jayne was the true boss of her family. She gave the best advice whether you wanted it
or not and was very rarely ever wrong. She was the keeper of important dates and
memories. She was the organization behind all the adventures and camping trips. She
was our shoulder to cry on and always just a phone call away.
In her younger years, Jayne would most likely have been found outdoors. She enjoyed
cross country skiing, skidooing, 4 wheeling and a good game of crib by the campfire.
She loved the smell of fresh cut grass and a summer road trip.
In her later years, she loved visits with her grandchildren, her dog, Zoey, and a Saturday
night game of Big Money TV Bingo with her husband.
Never fearful of hard work, Jayne’s career was a source of great pride in her life. She
left her position at the Kirkland Lake and District school board to pursue a career at
Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) in 1992. She retired from VAC in 2020 having helped
countless Veterans and their families and creating lifelong friendships along the way.
During her time at VAC, she was also a strong advocate and representative for the
members of the Union of Veterans Affairs’ Employees (UVAE). She held many positions
with the union including local president, regional vice president of Ontario, and National
Executive Vice President.
Jayne leaves an unfillable void in the hearts of those who loved her, including her
husband, Leo Auranen, and his extended family who welcomed her into their own family
with open arms.
Jayne’s children will be forever grateful for the love and guidance she gave them. Her
daughter, Katherine Quinn (Dave Eves) and Son, Evan Quinn, consider themselves
lucky to have had her in their lives and will miss her dearly.
Jayne’s grandchildren and her 5 most favourite people in the entire world called her
Nanny.
The Eves Grandchildren: Lauren Ayla and Leah Jaclyn and the Quinn Grandchildren:
Aiden James, Mackenzie Kaitlyn, and Zachary Dean were the absolute light of her life.
Nanny loved us all fiercely and reminded us often by saying, I Love you to the Moon
and Back.
May she rest peacefully knowing we all loved her just as much, To the Moon and Back
and for Always.
In keeping with Jayne’s wishes, no service will be held. Family and friends will gather at
a later date to honour her memory.
Donations can be made to the Canadian Lung Association.
