In memory of

William Reeves

1933 - 2026

William Reginald “Bill” Reeves passed away peacefully in the early morning of Sunday, January 4, 2026, surrounded by care and compassion. He was born on November 19, 1933, in Kirkland Lake, Ontario, to the late William and Lillian (Clark) Reeves.

One of four children, Bill was predeceased by his beloved siblings: his brother Tommy (the late Patricia), and his sisters Jane (the late Bill Vandebelt) and Lillias (Bill Sutherland).

Bill is survived by his devoted wife of sixty-five years, Marilyn (O’Shea) Reeves. Their marriage was a true partnership, marked by love, laughter, shared adventure, and deep devotion to family. Together they raised their cherished son, Reverend Daniel J. Reeves (Dee), and created a lifetime of memories through summers spent at their cottage on Longpoint Lake and winters enjoying the sunshine in Clearwater, Florida.

Bill was a proud grandfather to Natalie Genoe (Don) and Daniel Reeves (Serge), and a loving great-grandfather to Luke and Claire Genoe, each of whom brought him immense joy. He was predeceased by his daughter-in-law, Susan Johnston Reeves.

A skilled diesel mechanic, Bill worked at Adams Mine for nearly thirty years, where he was respected for his dedication and strong work ethic. He was a lifelong member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church and a proud member of the Kirkland Lake Masonic Lodge, Doric Lodge No. 623 A.F. & A.M.

Deeply proud of his Scottish heritage, Bill delighted in the music of Harry Lauder and had a lifelong love of poetry, rhymes, and limericks. He was especially fond of the works of Robert Service, whose lengthy poems he could recite from memory. In his later years at Extendicare, Bill continued to share his wit and warmth, entertaining staff and visitors alike with his clever verses and quick humour.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the entire staff at Extendicare, as well as to the EMS personnel and physicians whose kindness, compassion, and care brought comfort to Bill and his loved ones.

Bill will be remembered for his sharp mind, gentle humour, steadfast faith, and the deep love he held for his family. His presence will be profoundly missed and lovingly remembered.

In honouring Bill's wishes, there will be no funeral service. A private family graveside interment will take place at a later date.

 There’s a land where the mountains are nameless,

And the rivers all run God knows where;

There are lives that are erring and aimless,

   And deaths that just hang by a hair;

There are hardships that nobody reckons;

   There are valleys unpeopled and still;

There’s a land—?oh, it beckons and beckons,

   And I want to go back—?and I will.

So sorry that I lost track of Bill who was my mom’s first cousin (Jeanie Dinnen) and lived two doors down from her on Rand Ave. My grandmother, Isabel Haughton was Aunt Lil’s sister. They were very close and came to Canada together first to Hamilton and then to Kirkland Lake. Their husbands, Bill and Sandy were best friends. Mom often spoke of playing with Bill and Tommy whom she considered as brothers. Lilias and Bill Sutherland were also among her favourite cousins. Jane who moved from Kirkland was less familiar to me although my husband Wayne and I visited her once at her home in Keswick when we lived in Newmarket. Aunt Lil and Granny spend many hours serving tea, setting tables, and preparing sandwiches and treats for the annual tea and bazaar held at St. Andrew’s. I remember well, Aunt Lil standing in the kitchen at the church washing the endless teacups during the very popular tea. Bill was always very attentive towards me when I was a youngster attending church. I remember little Danny especially at the annual Christmas party when Santa visited with gifts for all the children. My sincere condolences to all.
