It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the peaceful passing of Theodore
(Ted) Henry Rivett who left us on Monday, March 16th, 2026 at the age of 87.
Born in Matheson on October 22nd, 1938 to Henry and Evelyn (Leigh) Rivett, Ted
was raised in Goodfish with his seven siblings and remained a lifelong resident of
the Kirkland Lake area. He began his career working on the drills at Wright-
Hargreaves in 1959 and later retired as a machinist from Heath & Sherwood.
Ted was an avid outdoorsman, spending as much time in nature as he could;
hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing or shovelling the seemingly
endless amounts of snow. He passed his love and knowledge of the outdoors to
his children and grandchildren. Many wonderful memories were made with Papa
fishing and canoeing at his home on Goodfish Lake, he will be deeply missed by
all. Ted will be fondly remembered for his catchphrase “YaYa” in conversations, the
running lighthearted joke between his children was wondering whether or not he
was really listening to you.
Left to mourn his loss are Ted’s children Thomas Rivett, Greg (Linda) Rivett and
Rachel (Derek) Bailey. His sister Helen Matthews. His grandchildren Josh Rivett,
Erica Rivett, Daniel (Brooke) Rivett, Nolan Rivett, Julia (Sebastian) Marquez and
Rebecca Bailey along with his great grandchildren Theodore Rivett, Bodie Rivett
and Isabella Marquez.
Ted was predeceased by his loving wife of 62 years Margaret (Perrier) Rivett, his
parents Henry and Evelyn Rivett, sister Leona (Stewart) MacDonald, sister Norma
(Roy) Garlick, sister Vivian (Rudy) Grzelak, sister Lorraine (Bill) MacDonald,
brother Mervin (Alice) Rivett, brother-in-law Stan Matthews, brother Arnold Rivett
and his great granddaughter Delilah Rivett.
The family is deeply grateful to the staff at Teck Pioneer Residence (Toburn Unit)
for the care, kindness, and friendship you showed Ted over the past two years, it
did not go unnoticed. A very special thank you to Betty, Anne and Vivien in
Palliative Care. Your presence brought him comfort during his final days which
meant so much to the family.
In keeping with Ted’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private interment
service will be held in the spring at Hillcrest Cemetery in Matheson. As
expressions of sympathy, donations can be made to Teck Pioneer Residence or to
the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada.

Our heartfelt condolences to Ted's family from the family of Ted's brother, Arnold, in Windsor. Many great memories with visits to the north as Ted was our guide for our family of novice snowmobilers, rifle shooting, fun winter sports, etc. Brothers and wives visiting in the summertime and hours spent reminiscing by the firepit with Margaret, Mervin and Alice. Great northern memories. Rest in Peace
