It is with profound sadness that the children would like to announce the passing of our beloved father, Robert Paananen on Monday April 27, 2026. Dad is now reunited with the love of his life, Evelyn Paananen. Their marriage spanned 71 years and was one of devotion and strength. We take comfort in knowing, that they are together once again.
Robert was predeceased by his father Onni Paananen, mother Evelyn Stoyand, stepfather John Stoyand Sr., brothers John Jr. and Terry Stoyand. Left to mourn his loss, are his 4 children Robert Jr. (Kathy), Terry (predeceased Debbie) (Carole), Randy and Karina (Marc). Along with his sisters Donna (Richard) and Brenda. His grandchildren Amanda, Christopher, Carrie, Lisa, Coty, David,Joshua, Brandon, Scott and Aaron, along with several great grandchildren.
Dad had the most interesting life, from going out at the age of 5 to set his first traps and hunting with his BB gun. This lead to a life long passion of trapping and hunting to provide for his family. Dad was a “jack of all trades”, building several houses, even doing the electrical and plumbing himself. There was nothing, he couldn’t do. At the young age of 15, he was out staking claims, which lead him in to mining. His mining was cut short when he developed asthma and from there he went into law enforcement.
Dad will be remembered for his amazing artwork, selling paintings all over the world. Dad definitely lived life to the fullest and will be remembered fondly by so many people.
At this time we would like to thank his great granddaughter Odessa, who works part time at Teck Pioneer Residence. She brought him a lot of joy this past year, along with all the residents who reside there. We would also like to thank the staff of Teck Pioneer Residence, for taking such good care of him.
As per Dad’s wishes, cremation will take place. A celebration of life will be held this summer for him and mom, at our favourite place on earth Sesekinika Lake.
Rest easy dad, you are together again with mom.
