Fleur Blanche

In memory of

Peter Ducsharm

1958 - 2025

It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of Peter Ducsharm on Thursday, November
27 th at Blanche River Health, surrounded by family. Peter is survived by his wife Shirley (née
Wood), sister Linda Desmeules (née Ducsharm), brother Don (Carol), sister-in-laws Ingrid
Ducsharm and Charlotte Watson as well as many nieces and nephews. He was a proud father
to Michael (Stephanie) and Kelsey (Justin), and loving grandfather to Willow and Izaac. Peter is
predeceased by his parents Joan and Hugh, and his brothers David and Alan.

Born and raised in Kirkland Lake, Peter grew up with a love of sports – playing golf, football,
baseball and hockey with his friends and brothers. He eventually moved on to coaching hockey
where he was able to pass on the love of the game to others. He kept his love of sports going
later in life by keeping up with his favourite teams – the Montreal Canadiens, Toronto Blue Jays
and the Buffalo Bills. He was also an avid reader who especially loved historic fiction and
biographies, always eager to learn something new or get lost in a good story (something he
passed along to his kids).

Peter spent many years dedicated to this community. He was a former President of the
Chamber of Commerce, was involved in the creation of the Rotary Park downtown and helped
with Canada Days at Culver Park. During his time as manager of Kirkland Lake Homecare he
pursued many initiatives to help support the community.

Peter was happiest when he could make someone’s day a little easier or brighten it with a joke, a smile, or a bit of playful mischief. His warmth, humour, and willingness to help others were constants throughout his life. His compassion extended to animals as well; he had a soft spot for strays and often brought them home (with or without prior consultation with his wife).
His many years at Home Hardware were marked by helping his customers and goofing around
with coworkers. He was always willing to have a good chat, joke around then eventually get
around to business. With a big heart and a love for making others smile or laugh, Peter made
every place he went a little brighter.

The family would like to thank Dr. Kurki and the nursing staff at BRH for the care and
compassion shown at the hospital.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, December 14 th from 1-4pm in the Rainbow Room of the Encore Club. Please come share your stories and help us celebrate the life of our beloved Peter.

Shirley, Michael and Kelsey I can't begin to say how saddened was when I heard about Peter's passing. I could honestly say that Peter and Shirley were a big part of my growing up. I met them when I was probably about 10 years old when my mother started babysitting baby Michael. The world is going to be a little less sweet and kind without him around. My most sincerest condolences, Becky

Please accept our most sincere condolences on the loss of Peter. My, what a gem he was, always so pleasant and kind, knowledgable and energetic. He was truly a special guy! This community has alot of what we refer to as "Icons", and Peter was definatly one. We always knew if they couldn't figure it out at Home Hardwear, they went to Peter. He knew where our little .10 cent piece was stored until we picked it up and was never afraid to look into things to find us what we needed. Such a gem! We are so sorry for your loss, and Kirkland's loss.
