In memory of

Louis Poirier

1961 - 2026

It is with our deepest sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved brother Louis, at HSN Sudbury on Friday, July 3rd with family by his side, after a long-fought battle. He was two months shy of his 65th birthday.

His body may have broken down through the years, but his mind was still sharp and witty. After reading so many beautiful condolences on his Facebook page, he certainly touched many lives. From precious family members near and far, the people of Matachewan where he lived most of his childhood, to high school and college friends, work colleagues, dialysis staff and patients, Encore Club patrons, neighbours and acquaintances and his Tim Horton’s gang… it was very heartwarming to read.

Louis is survived by his mom Colette (née Bernatchez), sister Pauline (Dave), sister Pierrette (Al), sister Julie and sister Lise, nephew Steven and niece Ashley. He also leaves behind many loved cousins, aunts and uncles.

He was predeceased by his father Jacques, and grandparents Alphonse and Bertha (née Leach) and grandparents Wilfrid and Thérèse (née Brault) Poirier.

Louis was an avid music listener, especially the classic 80s, but was known to love any type of music. The brief time we still had with him at HSN, he was quite happy that one of his nurses looked like Luke Bryan! He loved watching sports, especially with his friends at the apartment building during the Super Bowl. He loved hockey. I believe that he got Mom hooked as she quite often inquired with Louis when the next Montreal Canadiens game is on. Loved technology of any kind. Loved sports cars. Loved to talk and chat with everyone that was willing to listen.

Big hugs and love to cousins Suzanne and Gerry who were able to be with Louis in Sudbury when we weren’t able to. He loved his last visit with Gerry so much, reminiscing about the good old days in Matach during summer visits with the gang.

“Rest easy big brother”

As per Louis’ wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no service at this time. But please remember and celebrate his life as he did.

Very sad for this loss. Louis remained friends since we met in High School. Many Facebook and text chats about music over the years. I made a point of reaching out and visiting whenever I got home to see family each year. A really great guy and he will be very missed.
