I cherish the memories of growing up with your family. I find myself remembering fighting with Joe over the last of the risotto in your kitchen, him teaching me how to do loon calls around campfires at Esker or how to dive from your floating dock at Nettie… his eyes always flickering with a bit of mischief and a lot of love. I’m holding you all in my thoughts.

Joe was my immediate supervisor when I worked as secretary at Timiskaming Child and Family Services. I always found Joe to be devoted to his job and was always fair and understanding with everyone who worked there. My condolences to his family.

I’m so very sorry for your loss. He was a kind man with a great smile. I just wish I had gotten that last cinnamon cake to him but I love that he called me the monkey bread lady! Christina, you have so many great memories of your Blue Jays trips that you got to share with your Dad. I’m sure he’ll be right there beside you at every one! He fought a long, hard battle, but every time I saw him he had a smile. I’m so sorry to all of you who are left, but I’m happy his pain and suffering are over.

Joe was a special man and will be missed by many. I was fortunate enough to begin my career under Joe’s tutelage, and I couldn’t have asked for better, as he always supported his staff and was not only supportive with constructive criticism, but also acknowledgement when someone went above and beyond. I was saddened to hear of Joe's passing I had some very good memories of knowing Joe when i lived on Queen St. We also had some connections in high school on some functions . Later we served on Parish Financial council at Holy Name . he always had a different outlook on issues which was a good thing. I also did a lot of electrical work for him & Deb . I (Walter Hope-hukezalie) am Joe’s cousin and was born in the same year as Joe. We began school together at Holy Name School and continued until my family moved to Elliot Lake. I have fond memories of interactions with Joe and Albert and there loving home on Rand East. He was a great member of our extended family of many cousins. I am sure God will bless Joe and his family.

Joe was a breath of fresh air when he came to work with us at Timiskaming Family and Children’s Services in the 1970’s. His personal integrity from his first workday endured and Timiskaming benefitted from his devotion to the community he served so well. Joe was a true Kirkland Lake son and he set an example for me of how important that is. In a word, Joe was and is the epitome of honest common sense Northern Honesty and caring. Joe cared about who you were and who he was consistently, in that order. His job was to monitor the finances on behalf of us all and he devoted himself totally to that pursuit. His focus remained outstanding and his example will endure. Personally I trusted Joe and was able to maintain my professional balance for many years of service thanks to his example. Of course when Joe asked a favour, I always paid close attention. I can see his smile at this observation. Can’t you!

I just now heard of Joe’s death. I am so sorry for your loss. I had the privilege of working with Joe at Family and Children's Services when I was in high school. I got a job there through the local Co-Op program. Joe was a great boss and always so kind and supportive.
