I am sorry for your loss. John was a huge part of my childhood as I spent many summers at Round Lake with Noella, He was very patient teaching me when I wanted to learn how to water ski, and was bound and determined I would !! When I finally stood on two feet on those skis and didn't take a face dive into the water he applauded me. I have many fond memories from those days. May you all find comfort in each other during this difficult time. May John R.I P.

I first met John when I was a Toronto teenager spending summers at Round Lake and he was exactly as described in the wonderful obituary. His kindness and willingness to help were characteristics we should all emulate. Over the years, my return visits in summer and fall included my own family, and my sons and I would always look forward to seeing and catching up with John, and getting his insight about the fish and birds. His was a long life, well lived. I hope the memories he created will provide comfort for his family and friends. He will be missed. The Elliott family: Peter, Michelle, Connor & Ethan

I grew up with John(ny) in Swastika and probably spent more time with him, summer and winter, than with anyone else in Swastika. In the summer we rode our bikes all over town, swam in the river at Strong's dock or up at Beatrice Lake, played cops and robbers or cowboys and Indians with the other kids, went for hikes in the bush and one summer we made a small cabin in the vacant lot across from his house. But the most fun we had in the summer was actually work, although we didn't realize it at the time. We "worked" at his Dad's sawmill, rolling logs into the trough that brought them into the mill to be cut, or we piled the cut lumber, sorting each into the proper bin for drying. To us this was FUN, pretending to be all grown up. In the winter we played hours of road hockey and shinny on the outdoor rink with the occasional trip to the rink shack to thaw our frozen feet by the red hot wood stove. When in high school, John and I decided to check out a school dance one night, where I met and started dating my first girlfriend, Sharon Hillman, who now has been my wife for the past 60 years. In those early years of my life, John was my best friend, and I cherish those great memories that we made together. My sincere condolences to Carolyn and Don, Michael and Anne and the rest of John's family.
