It is with great sadness that we share the recent passing of our mother Joan Gabriel, Joan passed away on July 29, 2026 at her home in Kirkland Lake.
Mom was born on June 10,1938 in Toronto to Ruth and Sherman Hyatt. Her early childhood was spent rollar skating up and down the sidewalks and taking streetcars with her cousins to visit family in the city.
The later part of her childhood was spent in Farmborough, Quebec where they lived in a small community with no hydro or indoor plumbing. She went to a one room school house and did plenty of chores on the farm.
She moved to Kearns in her late teens where she met and married our father Rene White, they spent 35 years together raised three children.
After our father Rene's passing in 1993 mom moved to Kirkland Lake where she eventually found love again and married Alphonse Gabriel. She was a lifetime member of the Legion ladies auxillary. She could also be found volunteering for numerous clubs at the local bingo hall.
One of mom's greatest pleasures was watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren grow and sharing in all of their successes. She charished every visit with each and everyone of them.
Mon was predeceased by her parents Ruth and Sherman Hyatt, Her husbands Rene White and Alphonse "Al" Gabriel and her brother Sherwood Hyatt.
Left to cherish her memory is her son Richard White and daughter-in-law Cheryl (her shopping Partner and truly another daughter), her daughters Elaine White and Marlene Stewart (Bruce).
She will also be greatly missed by her beloved grandchildren Amanda Breault, Sara Boisvert (Jason), Brandon White (Taylor), Cole McCombe (Rita), John Stewart (Jen) (Avery) and great-grand children Madlyn, Seth, Eli Boisuert, Hannah and Jack White, Leah, Lucy ,Lily McCombe, Alex, Andre and Alyah Harvey and Reid Stewart.
Mom is also survived by her sister April Hyatt and nephew Adam Turcotte as welll as her good Friends Dorthy Virtolliand Laura French.
As per moms wishes cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
We would like to express a special thank you to all the nurses, doctors, PSWs and other support services she received over the past few months . Special thanks to Alexandria, Deb, and Chloe who helped mom stay at home, So she could be more comfortable.
Mom's love of cardinals will carry on with all those who knew and loved her.
