With heavy hearts, the family of Hylda Maureen Carter announces her passing.
Hylda Maureen Carter passed away peacefully on December 19, 2025, at the age of 79. Born in Cheltenham, England, she came to Canada as a young child, beginning a life rooted in family, kindness, and quiet strength.
Maureen devoted most of her life to being a loving stay-at-home mother to her three daughters. Her gentle nature, steady presence, and unwavering care shaped the foundation of her family. She had a deep love of travel with her family and found joy in embracing local traditions wherever she went, collecting memories and experiences that she cherished throughout her life.
Creative and hardworking, Maureen also ran a home ceramics business, pouring her artistic spirit into each piece she crafted.
She is predeceased by her husband, Richard Styles Carter, and her daughter Dawn Hewitt. She is survived by Dawn’s husband, Wayne Hewitt; her daughters Rikk Carter and her husband Wade Lafferty; and Nicole Carter.
Maureen was a proud grandmother to Jessica Busse, Tessa Rooker, Keiran Rooker, Jaryd Carter, and Ashton Carter, and a delighted great-grandmother to Elayna Busse and Charlize (“Charlee”) Alguire.
She will be remembered for her kindness, her creativity, her love of adventure, and the deep devotion she held for her family. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched and the memories she leaves behind.
