In memory of

Evelyn Paananen

1930 - 2026

The family would like to announce with profound sadness, the passing of our beloved wife and mother, Evelyn Paananen on Friday January 23, 2026 at Extendicare, Kirkland Lake.

Evelyn was predeceased by her parents John and Mary Ace.  Her siblings Cecil, George, Bertha, Marie, Christine and Vena.
Left to mourn her loss is her is her loving husband of 71 years Robert Paananen, her 4 children Bob (Kathy), Terry (Carole), Randy and Karina (Marc).  Her grandchildren Patty, Amanda, Christopher, Carrie, Lisa, Coty, David, Joshua, Brandon, Scott and Aaron, along with 19 great grandchildren.

Mom was the most amazing wife and mother.  She had the most beautiful soul, so kind and thoughtful, always there to do anything for her husband and children.  There wasn’t a thing in this world that she couldn’t do.  She could take anything that was broken, take it apart and in minutes, have it fixed.  She was an amazing cook and baker, making the best Thanksgiving meals for the whole family at their cottage at Sesekinika Lake.  She would knit or crochet the most beautiful items for her children and grandchildren.  The list could go on and on.

As per mom’s wishes, there will be no service, her ashes will scattered be at their favourite place on earth, Sesekinika Lake.

Mom, even though you are gone, you will forever be in our hearts and mind.  Not a day will go by, that you will be so missed.  Until we meet again mom.

My heart goes out to my brother Bob Paananen and his kids Bobby, Terry, Randy and Karina over the loss of a wonderful wife and loving mother. She was a great sister-in-law. Even as a child I remember that sparkle in her eye when she smiled. One thing I remember so clearly was her "Oh Bob" whenever my brother said something silly or teased us kids. As an adult I did not see Eve too often. They moved away. When they returned to Kirkland my sister Donna and I would visit them at their cottage at Ses. Bob would reminise with us and Evelyn always made tea and usually some sort of sweets. Although I have not seen Eve in many years, time does not erase the love I felt for this wonderful lady. Rest in peace Eve.
