It is with heavy hearts that the family of Earl Robert Orvis announces his passing on Sunday, February 1, 2026.
Earl was born at home on October 27, 1938, in Melancthon Township (4th Line), to his loving parents, Stella Rose (Carpenter) Orvis, a devoted Sunday school teacher, and Robert Orvis, a hardworking farmer. He grew up in the close-knit farming community of Shelburne, Ontario, where family, faith, and hard work shaped his life.
Earl was one of nine siblings and is predeceased by Eileen (late Robert) Teeter, Alvin Orvis, and Marilyn (late Ross) Austin. He is lovingly remembered by Ivadel (Aubrey) Ferguson, Ruth (John) Henderson, Marie (Dave) Woods, Wayne (Linda) Orvis, Marilyn (late Ross ) Austin and Lyle (Helene Whiteman) Orvis.
Shelburne always held a special place in Earl’s heart. It was there he played hockey, spent long days working on the family farm, and enjoyed baseball games and gatherings with siblings and friends on the family farm .These early years instilled in him the strong values and love of the outdoors that he carried throughout his life.
Earl married the love of his life, the late Elaine Ruth Christian, and together they raised three children: Mandy Elaine (Orvis) Siebert, Wayde Robert Douglas Orvis, and Shayne William Orvis.
He was a proud and devoted grandfather to five grandchildren: Jane Siebert, Jill Siebert, Jeremy-Kash Siebert, Emily Mulvihill, and Eden Mulvihill. His grandchildren brought him immense joy, and he cherished time spent with them—especially their annual blueberry picking trips, which created lasting memories for all.
A skilled electrician by trade, Earl built his career through hard work and determination, eventually establishing his own business, 3# Electric, in Brampton, Ontario. His entrepreneurial spirit later led him north to the Tarzwell and Kirkland Lake area, where he embraced the bush life he loved so much. An avid hunter and fisherman, Earl found peace in the outdoors and took great joy in sharing that passion with his family.
During his time in the north, Earl operated a small zoo and later contributed to the growth of Aidie Creek Gardens, where he played an important role in planning and building greenhouses. His strong work ethic and practical skills left a lasting impact on the businesses and communities he was part of.
Earl will be remembered for his strong hands, kind heart, deep love of family, and connection to the land. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, independence, and devotion to those he loved.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 15, 2026 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in Kirkland Lake, at the Timiskaming Funeral Cooperative located at 111 Burnside Kirkland Lake.
