KIRCHMAYER, Shirley

1934 - 2024

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Shirley Kirchmayer peacefully at Teck Pioneer Residence.

Shirley was born June 5, 1934 to Cecil and Elsie Drake. She was very proud of the fact that she was the first baby born in King Kirkland. She spent the early years of her life living in various small mining towns including Duncan BC and Pickle Crow where she had her school work flown in to her.The family eventually settled in King Kirkland and ran a gas station. She graduated from grade 13 at KLCVI and moved to North Bay to complete teacher’s college.

Shirley met her husband Harry in King Kirkland while she was pumping gas. They were married December 3, 1954 and had three children. She loved her three girls and her eventual 8 grand children.
Shirley poured her heart into her family and into teaching. This passion would lead her through a 30- year career with the Kirkland Lake and district School Board. After her retirement, she opened a learning center and continued to tutor children for many years.

Shirley’s faith was very important to her. She was a member of the United Church where she taught Sunday school. Later she joined the Riverside Community Church and continued to be involved in her
church community.

Shirley spent her final years being cared for lovingly by the staff at Teck Pioneer Residence. The family is very grateful for the excellent care she was given during her time there.

She is predeceased by her parents Cecil and Elsie Drake, her brother Cedric and sister-in-law Doreen Drake. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Harry and daughters Trudy (Pat), Leslie (Gavin), Cindy (Greg). She was very proud of her 8 grandchildren, Meagan (Jon), Maureen, Kirk (Maddie), Connor (Keesha), Leah (Josh), Dylan (Jill), Sam, Savanna, and her great-grandchild Jude. She was also loved by her many aunts, uncles and cousins from King Kirkland.

The family would like to invite everyone to the French Family Funeral Home in Kirkland Lake on August 23 rd . Visitation will begin at 10:30 am followed by a service at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, the family
encourages donations to Teck Pioneer Residence’s Toburn Floor and the TPR Busy Bee Spa.
