Turner, Victoria (Vicki)It is with great sorrow that the family announces the passing of Vicki, at Teck Pioneer Residence in Kirkland Lake on Saturday February 20, 2016. Vicki was born in Cobalt. After the death of her mother, Vicki moved to Kirkland Lake where she lived for a time with an aunt and uncle. In 1940 she met and married Arthur Turner. They took up residence in Kirkland Lake for several years as home base while Art, a railroader, was away relieving. They moved almost every two years, from one job to another. With each move, Vicki enjoyed meeting new people. The longest stay in one place was 8 years in Moosonee where they worked long hours at the station. She also took over the responsibility of securing accommodation for the many tourists after the lodge was full. While in Moosonee, she became a member of the James Bay Curling Club and in later years the Holtyre Curling Club and the Kirkland Lake Curling Club. For many years she was a member of the Golden Gate Rebecca Lodge as well as the Horticultural Society and the Encore Club, where she enjoyed playing Bridge. She also enjoyed badminton, bowling, skating, knitting and cooking. Vicki was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Elsie (nee Wuilleme) Bird, her husband Art in 2011 and all of her 7 siblings. She is survived by her son Terrence (Judy), grandsons Todd (Michelle) and Brent (Cassandra) as well as much cherished great granddaughters Grace, Eden and Ellery. Also surviving are her sister-in-law, Ilmi Bird as well as many nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren. In keeping with Vicki’s wishes, cremation has taken place at FRENCH FAMILY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORIUM (111 Burnside Dr., Kirkland Lake, ON. P2N 3L1), and there will be no formal funeral service. However, the family will welcome family and friends to a celebration of Vicki’s life in the activity room on the second floor of T.P.R. on Saturday February 27, 2016, beginning with a short presentation at 1:30 pm. Vicki’s remains will be laid to rest with those of her husband in the spring at the Kirkland Lake Cemetery. In memory of Vicki, donations may be made to the T.P.R. Activity Fund or a charity of one’s choice. As well, the family wish to sincerely thank the many dedicated employees of T.P.R. for their caring and professionalism in tending to Vicki’s needs and brightening her days during her 5 years at this first rate facility. Finally, we wish to acknowledge the top-notch service by the E.M.S. paramedics on two return ambulance rides to the Timmins District Hospital, in the past two months.Offer Condolence for the family of Victoria Turner
