Ron was my employer, boss and most importantly my friend during my high school years at Kirkland Pharmacy. He was one of the finest people I have had the privilege of knowing. He would lend me his car, take me fishing, give me advice when needed and was a pleasure to be around. I regret not seeing him in his last years. Rest in Peace Ron.

I DEALT WITH RON FAIRLY OFTEN WHEN I WAS IN PRACTICE AND HE WAS WORKING AS A PHARMACIST. MY WIFE AND I WERE ALSO INVITED TO HIS DAUGHTER’S WEDDING WHEN WE FIRST CAME TO KIRKLAND LAKE. WE OFTEN CHATTED WITH HIM AT RAVEN SKI SLOPE WHEN HE USED TO SKI. HE WAS A REAL PROFESSIONAL IN HIS WORK AND WAS AN EXCELLENT PHARMACIST, IT WAS A REAL PLEASURE TO DEAL WITH HIM, BUT MORE THAN THAT HE WAS KIND AND ALWAYS VERY POSITIVE AND UPBEAT. HE WAS A REAL GENTLEMAN IN THE BEST SENSE OF THE WORD. I MISSED HIM PROFESSIONALLY WHEN HE RETIRED AND I WILL MISS NOT SEEING HIM AROUND KIRKLAND LAKE-WE USED TO STOP AND CHAT FROM TIME TO TIME. Greetings to Ron’s Family, My thoughts when I read about the passing of Ron in Ottawa was that he was such an all round man that Kirkland Lake and his family were fortunate to have . He was also in many ways a role model for miner’s sons and daughters who also worked in the mines and businesses showing them they could go onto professions and contribute to communities across Canada. When I met Ron whether it be on Raven Ski Hill, at Doric Lodge or in the store that smile was always there — something we all have to pass on in his memory. Ron was my greatest mentor. I would not have been a pharmacist today if it hadn’t been for his guidance in my early years. He taught us all how to be professional, generous, and honest in all the things we do in life. Service above self was always his motto. Ron was a great man. We will miss him. Mr. Loach was a very kind man who I remember as always being so friendly and helpful at the pharmacy. I recall a lovely chat we had at my nephew’s wedding a few years ago. My deepest condolences to Brenda and the Loach family.

A recent e-mail from Mary Driver told me of the passing of Ronald and led me to this web site where I could read the obituary. He certainly was a well respected and busy man, living life to the full. You will each have many memories to treasure. It’s many years since I last saw Ronald or any of the Loach family. My parents were Maud & Russell Pirie who lived on a farm in Lorrain Valley. My dad was a sister of Ida. I remember visits to Aunt Ida & Uncle Gordon’s home on Tower St. in K.L. and what I thought was a long set of steps at the back of the house where we made the odd trip to a nearby candy store. Sometime after my Dad died in 1948 we moved to Guelph where I was married in 1962 and later my husband Roy and I moved to Pincher Creek Alberta. Roy passed away in 2012. My sincere sympathy to each of you. You can be proud of the man who was your Dad, your grandpa and your friend. Lois

I was Mr. Loach’s paperboy for over six years and lived across the street from him from the day I was born to the day I left for university. Every time I would see him, either sitting by the window or outside by the mailbox, he’d greet me with a smile, or we’d chat for a while about how I was doing, or how fast drivers on our street have been going. Even before then, I have memories of trick-or-treating at his house, and he’d always compliment me on my costume. In my many encounters with Mr. Loach, he was never anything less than a perfectly friendly, extremely kind man. I was very sorry to hear of his passing earlier today and simply wanted to pass on my condolences to his family. Whenever I go home, I’ll always remember the house across the street as Mr. Loach’s house.

I am so sorry to hear of Ron’s passing. He was a good friend to me and helped me immensely many times over the years. A true gentleman in every sense. Our loss is heavens gain God bless

Ron was a cornerstone of the community as longtime owner of Kirkland Pharmacy, another cornerstone of Kirkland Lake. My own grandfather was manager of Kirkland Pharmacy from 1928-31. Our condolences to the Loach family.
