Birch, Ronald Edward

BIRCH, Ronald Edward

1935 - 2020

Ron/Dad could be crusty, tough, opinionated and brutally blunt. And he silently loved and cared for his family deeply. He grew up between Charlton and Toronto with his parents and brother, Fred. He married Mabel Ager October 11, 1957 and four children quickly followed; and in time, 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandkids. Englehart was home since 1961 and much of the time he could be found at the cottage on Wendigo. Mom and Dad were married for 63 years. Ron was a fixture at the Temiskaming Health Unit (Public Health Inspector) for many years. During the 30 years of retirement, Dad did more skidooing (and less fishing) and even took up the ATV. Thank you to the OFCC (Old Farts Coffee Club) who provided much fun and friendship daily. A special shout out to the ladies at JST Variety for hosting/tolerating this group of reprobates. Ron was a direct, no-nonsense, maybe even hard man. When his wife, Mabel went into care, he visited faithfully. When Covid hit, he missed her endlessly. When visitation opened up again, without hesitation, he took no less than ten Covid tests to be able to see her regularly. And those visits were hard on Dad. Mom no longer knew who he was and most often refused to speak to him. Our Dad died of a broken heart. Thank you to many friends and family and the support of a strong and caring community that allowed our father to bloom. Much love and appreciation, Danny, Paul, Allen and Donna. The Mayor of Wendigo has peacefully closed the cottage for the season and driven off in his new truck. Cremation will be held and a Celebration of Ronald`s Life will be held at a later date when it`s safe t do so. Please remember Ron and give your loved ones a call/hug/hard time in his honour.
