Mamie Brookes passed away at the Englehart and District Hospital on Tuesday, May 12,2015, at the age of 84. Born in Englehart, she lived most of her life in Larder Lake raising her loving family before moving back to Englehart where she loved watching the birds and wildlife from her large picture window. Mamie was very artistic and did many crafts. Her talents included knitting, crocheting, sewing, quilting, as well as many others. She enjoyed playing cards and games with many friends and family. Her greatest joy was spending time with family and friends, laughing and enjoying life. She was predeceased by her husband Victor; one son, Oakley Brookes; two grandsons, Aaron Bullen and Scott Crawford; her brothers, Billy, Raymond and Jim Antler; her sisters, Annie Knott and Karen Antler. She is survived by her children Verla MacDonald and husband Marc of Timmins, Velda Hol and husband Ed of Dane, Nicky Bullen and husband John of Englehart, Wesley Brookes and wife Ying of Saskatchewan, Cleo Ellerton and husband Cal of Alberta, Roxanne Brookes of Alberta, and Shelley Bouchard and husband Al of Kirkland Lake. She is also survived by her brother Jack Antler and sisters, Agnes Denomme, Rosaline Allen, Fran Longyear and Phyllis Law. She will also be missed by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family of the late Mrs. Brookes celebrated her life on May 15,2015 ln memory contributions to the Heart and Stroke Foundation will be greatly appreciated by the family.
