It is with great sadness that Josey’s family announces her peaceful passing on Thursday February 3rd, at the age of 87, after a difficult battle with dementia and cancer. Born in Pipestone Manitoba, April 25th, 1923, she was one of 4 children that blessed the lives of Joseph and Mary (Scharf) Barre. After the tragic passing of her father at a young age, her mother was remarried to Robert Little and they formed a family of 9 children. In the coming years 5 more children were born for a total of 14 children. In trying to provide a better life for the family, Robert and Mary relocated them to Northern Ontario. They settled first in Cheminis and later lived at various locations in the Kearns, Virginiatown and Larder Lake areas. Josey spent her early years in these areas working different and varied jobs. She was married twice, widowed, separated and gave birth to 2 children. In 1969 Josey moved to Kirkland Lake and started working for Tony Poloni at the Don Lou Motel, where she remained until she retired at the age of 65. Her favorite hobbies were knitting, reading and talking about all of her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister. Joey enjoyed meeting and talking with people and was quick to make friends. She was kind and always had something pleasant to say to everybody she met as she walked around town with her sister Vivienne. For these reasons she developed many friends that she held quite dear. Josey is survived by her daughter Joanne (Horst) Pachan of Farmington Hills, MI; son Michael (Yvonne) Bowman of Kirkland Lake, ON; sisters Vivienne, Blanche, Mary, Esther and brother Charlie; grandchildren David, Douglas, Dianne, Jessica, Ward and Christine; great grandchildren Michael, Julie, Isabelle and Antonio; and numerous nieces and nephews she held dear. Josey was predeceased by her father Joseph Barre, step-father Robert Little, and mother Mary Little. Also by her brothers Clifford, Ross, Bill, Morris; sisters Mona, Verna, Iris, Elsie, husbands Vital Vincent, Alec Matte; grand granddaughter Adelina. In keeping with the families wishes there will be no services held at this time. A celebration of life will be planned later this spring. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Extendicare Nursing Home ( 155 Government Rd, East, Bag 3900, Kirkland Lake, ON, P2N 3P4) or to the Canadian Cancer Society (61 Main St, Kirkland Lake, ON, P2N 3E4).Offer Condolence for the family of Josephine Matte
