Joseph Kmyta,

JOSEPH KMYTA,

2021

It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Joseph (Joe) Kmyta on Friday, October 12, 2012. Joe will be remembered, by those who knew him best, as a consummate professional firefighter, as a great friend, as a thoughtful and caring son and brother, and as a soul mate to his wife Olga. Returning to Kirkland Lake after a long and distinguished career as a firefighter and educator in the Canadian Navy, Joe’s retirement was short lived as he responded in 2007 to the community’s need for a Fire Chief. He assumed that role with his usual dedication, enthusiasm, and humour and was respected and admired by his firefighter brethren as a teacher, colleague, and friend. Joe took great pride in his carpentry skills, as he and Olga, with the help of friends and family, took on a major renovation of their cottage sanctuary on Lake Sesekinika. It became his favourite place, and a spot that gave him great satisfaction and joy. We’ll miss your “Bonjour, that’s French you know” greeting, your happy dance, and your love for anything but country music. Joe leaves behind Olga, his childhood friend and wife of five wonderful years, his father Alex, his sisters Annie (Gary) and Olga (Bernie), brothers Jerry (Sue), Moe (Sylvia), Sonny, (Anne) and Steve, (Tina), and daughters Natasha, and Sonya. He was pre-deceased by his mother Mary. At his request there will be no service. Donations in his memory may be made to the Kirkland Lake Hospital Foundation, Diagnostic Imaging Department.Offer Condolence for the family of Joseph Kmyta

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you of Joe’s family. I first met Joe on the West Coast in 2000 when he was the Sea Trainer Chief Fire Fighter and I was a mere Corporal Fire Fighter on a ship for the very first time. Thanks for putting me through my paces so I could go on to make an excellent career out of being a fellow Fire Fighter. RIP Joe from your Portuguese General LOL !

Jim Munro, le 1 mars 2021

I did not know Joe as much as I know the rest of the Kmyta Family as Joe was the brother that was doing good deeds for his country. Always heard good thing about him and had the pleasure of meeting him for the first time at Tina and Steve home when they lived in Federal. Classy guy I thought as he was always dressed in his uniform. The clothing must have been very comfortable as he seemed to enjoy showing off his medals and ribbons of accomplishment. My best memory is Joe walking into my Uncle Gerald’s funeral in full dress to pay his condolences to our family. That was the icing on the cake. Joe, you will be missed by so many people but your spirit will live on. God bless to your family during this time of sorrow. Shawn, Joanne, Tyler and Kristy

My heart breaks for her and your family. I can never measure up to the amazing caregiving and love that my aunt has given selflessly to her family over the years but I promise to be there for her. Wow, I knew joe touched a lot of lives but I didn’t relize it was to this extent. I only had the pleasure of knowing joe for about 4 years at KLFS. Joe was a fair Chief and a great friend. I don’t think our service will be the same. Rest easy Sir. Your humour, leadership and friendship will be greatly missed.
