Johannes `John` Josephus Wilhelmus Arts (January 18, 1922 - December 9, 2009) Mr. Johannes `John` Arts passed away at the Anson General Hospital in Iroquois falls on December 9, 2009 at the age of 87 with his loving wife and family at his side. Emigrating from the Netherlands to Canada in 1950, John followed his dream of farming. Having graduated at the top of his class from Agricultural College, John was well respected in the farming community where he served on the local Co-op Board. He was recognized by the Canadian Seed Growers Association with a Long Service Award for his 15 years of Pedigreed Seed Production. Through his quiet leadership, he was often sought after for his expertise and knowledge in crop management and innovative technology. John was always a strong role model. He was dedicated to his family and was known by all for his honesty and integrity. He was deeply committed to his Catholic faith and actively supported the local parish. John will be remembered by those who knew him well as a hard worker; an avid gardener, inventor; and someone who loved nature, biking, and music. John and Agnes` love of dancing was evident by all who saw them sweep gracefully across the dance floor. Pre-deceased by his infant daughter, Diana, parents Theodorus and Johanna Arts and four of his siblings, Anton, Josephus (Wilhemina), Maria (Cornelius), and Johanna, brother-in-law Case, and sister-in-law Luise. Survived by his loving wife Agnes Arts (nee Raes); his four daughters Joan (Ric Atchison), Linda (Dale Godin), Mary-Louise (Mike Lauzon), and Vivian (Brian Caron). He will be forever remembered by his grandchildren Jason (Stephanie), Scott, Jennifer (Ryan), Raymond (Cheryl), Theresa, Christopher (Sonja), Matika, Erica, Angela, Sarah, and his three surviving siblings Tina, Ted, Harry (Mary), sister-in-law Ann, and brother-in-law Koos. The family of the late Mr. John Arts will receive friends at the McDonald Funeral Home (Englehart) on Friday, December 11th from 2-4 p.m. & 7 - 9 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church on Saturday, December 12th at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Englehart and District Hospital or the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
