Jean Mary Bruce, celebrated educator, loving sister and devoted aunt, passed away peacefully at a personal care home in Powassan ON, On Sept. 25, 2016 at the age of 81. Jean is survived by her brother, James Bruce of North Bay, ON, nephews Bill Potts of Ottawa, ON, Thomas Potts of Ottawa, ON, Matthew Potts of Ottawa, ON, Jordan Bruce of Toronto, ON and Graeme Bruce of Winnipeg, MB. She is predeceased by her twin sister Joan Potts (nee Bruce) of Ottawa in 2006, brother William, parents Mary and Bernard, aunt Margaret Paterson, uncles Donald (Isabelle) Paterson, Bill Paterson and nephew Robert Potts. Her teaching career, beginning in 1955, took her to Sudbury, Toronto, and Marter Township, before she returned home in 1963 to teach at the Englehart Public School, where she helped shape the minds of countless students both inside and outside the classroom. Her care and guidance still resonates in the community today. In retirement in 1977, she enjoyed several trips abroad and summers at the family cottage on Sesekinika Lake with her cherished sister, with whom she now joins in rest. Jean also devoted as much of her time and energy to the Presbyterian Church as she did her own family. She was a stalwart believer in the kindness of others, of proper grammar and of the power of a good (or otherwise) pun. She was a constant source of smiles and laughter, a beacon of unconditional love and a spiritual compass for her family and community. The family of the late Jean Bruce will receive friends at the McDonald Funeral Home, Englehart, Thursday September 29, from 7:00 to 9:00pm. A funeral service will be held at St. Paul`s Presbyterian Church, Englehart on Friday September 30, 2016 at 11:00am. Rev. Hansel Chen officiating.
