SAUNDERS, Janet

1924 - 2016

It is with great sadness to announce the passing of our mother, Janet Saunders on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at the Englehart & District Hospital with her family by her side at the age of 92. Janet was born in Dack Twp. on March 31, 1924 and was pre-deceased by her husband Howard in 1989 and 5 of her children Howard Jr., Orville, Mae Saunders, Faye Mills and Dian Schell. She is survived by her children Beverlee (Rolly Lemire), Gordon (Kim Gibson), Susan (Gill Savarie), 27 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. Janet led a very active life in the community of Charlton as a long time member of the Legion branch 227 and the Lions Club. Elected town councillor and appointed as town mayor. She was honoured by having a town park named after her and she was an active campaigner for the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Cancer Society and the Terry Fox Run. She was also a member of the Anglican Church and a life long volunteer. As per her wishes cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at the Charlton Legion Branch 227 on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at 11 a.m. Rev. Sherry De Jonge of the Anglican Church officiating. Following the service, there will be a Celebration of Life and luncheon at the Charlton Legion. In memory contributions to the Charlton Legion Branch 227 or the Charlton/Englehart Lions Club will be greatly appreciated.
