James “Jim” Thomas Simpson,

JAMES “JIM” THOMAS SIMPSON,

2021

It is with heavy hearts that the family of James (Jim) Simpson regret to inform of his peaceful passing at Extendicare early Saturday at the age of 95 with daughter Marlene at his side.Predeceased by his wife Gladys of 70 years, in 2017, son Gary in 2019, parents William and Edith and brothers George, Richard and Henry.Left to mourn, son Neil (Judy), daughter Marlene (Gerry Danis), sister-in-law Mary Post, grandchildren, Jamie, Chris, Bob, Derek, Adrian, Anthony, Jordan, Jennifer (DeSimone) and Erin (Armstrong) and 11 great-grandchildren.Born June 10, 1925, in the small village of Dane and attended a one-room school. With no opportunity at that time to go on after grade 8, he started working for the railway. Despite his lack of education, he was self-taught in many areas and took great pride in learning and trying new things. Up until two years ago, he did his own income tax by hand, without the use of a computer or calculator, a feat that not many people could do.Children, friends and the church were his main passion and he was well respected for his knowledge and skills in carpentry, electrical, plumbing and mechanics. He may be best remembered for his unique ability to either forget or give away the punch line on some of his many, many jokes, his lifetime losing battles with potato bugs and the annual last place finish in the tomato growing contest with wife Gladys, and neighbours Art, Roger and Ted. He graciously accepted the ribbing year after year. The family would like to thank the management and staff at Extendicare for their care and compassion given to Dad over the last few years.Due to strict covid regulations, no formal funeral will be performed at this time, the family plan to have a small graveside funeral at the cemetery in late spring.Offer Condolence for the family of James “Jim” Thomas Simpson

My sincere condolences to the family. He was such a kind patient man. I have fond memories of him driving around Tarzwell in an old van picking us kids up to go to Sunday School, either in Dane or the old school house on Swanson Road. Rest In Peace Mr Simpson

When we moved next door to Jim and Gladys in 1980 we had no clue who they were. Over the years we became best friends and now have fond, lasting memories of an older couple who accepted our way of life readily. Jim was a story teller and believe me I heard them all (more then once).he was a jack of all trades and was always willing to help. We will miss him working around his property which he kept in immaculate condition, his Sunday afternoon visits and his homemade gifts which still decorate our home and property. May he finally rest in peace. Our sincere condolences to the Simpson family.

I remember living in Dane Jim would pick me up every Sunday for church. We have the same birthday (June 10th). He was one of a kind! RIP Jim. You are with Jesus now.

Linda (Lorenz) Brandon, le 1 mars 2021

When Mr. Simpson celebrated his birthday at the Legion a few years ago, he and I had a wonderful chat about trains and what the sound of that lonesome whistle made us feel. My father had found work on the rails and had done some freighthopping. We had fun trying to outdo each other’s stories. He was a true gentleman with a fine sense of humor. My deepest sympathy to Mr. Simpson’s family. ellen

Sorry to hear of Jims passing.Jim and l had some really good talks on just about any subject.Jim was a man of wisdom and gave great advise, when l worked at the police station we usually had the best talks at 6am.when Jim came in to clean the station, never once did l ever hear Jim complain and l will always remember his laugh, Pray that the Simpson family will find strength and Peace during this sad time.Jim was a remarkable man, he is now absent from his body and present with his Lord whom he loved very much.

R.I.P. Mr. Simpson.I met Mr. Simpson in1965 shortly after my husband and I were married, his family lived in Dane across the road from The Simpsons. Such a gentle man, soft spoken, very kind, a great neighbour. I was volunteering in the Hospital Gift Shop and he stepped in and started talking to me, he said you probably don’t know who I am (this was in about 2010). Well, I honestly couldn’t come up with his name, but I said yes, you were our neighbour in Dane, just can’t remember your name. He chuckled and said “Jim” and I said “Oh yes, Mr. Simpson, he said I think your old enough to call me Jim now. I’m sure he will be missed by many. Deepest condolences to his family.

We are sorry to hear of the passing of Jim. He had a long life full of friends and family that he shared with Gladys. I remember the years he served the Salvation Army with his buddy Roy Campbell, as well as the weekly game nights he had with Reg and May Mackinnon. Jim crafted crokinole and Aggravation games for their many friends and we were lucky to be the recipients of his craftmanship. Jim and Gladys welcomed people into their large apartment at Federal for tea and cookies. They were very kind, simple people. Jim is now reunited with Gladys and his friends who went on before. Condolences to his children who have visited and looked after him in recent years. His witty sense of humor will be remembered by us all.
