Jack Howey, Kirkland Lake’s oldest resident passed away peacefully on Friday, March 25, 2011. Jack was born and raised in Slabtown, Ontario. He started working in the mines at the age of 17, at the age of 33 he moved onto a successful 25 year career at Ingersoll Rand. He travelled all over Northern Ontario and Quebec until his retirement. Jack enjoyed spending his winters in Arizona first with his wife Eva and in later years with his companion Dorothy Roche. He was blessed with a vivid memory and until his death, could remember Kirkland history with names, dates and places. Jack was predeceased by his first wife Beatrice (1941); second wife Eva (2001). He leaves behind his good friend Dorothy Roche of Dwight, Illinois. Jack is survived by his daughters Patricia Carlson and Helen (Bob) Daggett; sons Robert, Lorne (Brenda) and Gary (Linda); granddaughters Cheryll (Rick) Badgerow and Kim Carlson; grandsons Guy Carlson, John (Shannon) Daggett, Allen (Alcia) Daggett, Aaron (Wendy) Howey, Tad (Sylvie) Howey, Ted Howey, Mark Howey, Tim (Roxanne) Howey and Dustin Howey and thirteen great grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Monette & French Funeral Home on Monday , March 28, 2011 from 12:00 p.m. followed by a service at 1:00 p.m. with The Reverend David Naylor officiating. Jack will be laid to rest in the Kirkland Lake Cemetery in the spring.
