Gloria was 78 and lived the last year of her life in the caring and capable hands of the staff at Teck-Pioneer Residence. Gloria was born in Cobalt November 7, 1928 and moved to Timmins in 1937. She went to Toronto for training in radiography and this is where she met Ken in 1954. They were married November 16, 1957 and remained in Southern Ontario until 1959 when Ken accepted a position at the Kirkland & District Hospital. Gloria loved her family, friends, the Big Band Sound, her cottage at Lake Kenogami, dancing, pets, and vacations with Ken. We wish to send our most sincere sympathies to Gloria’s family. As one of my Mom’s best friends, Gloria was always there for the Mary, in good times as well as bad. I know Mom tried to reciprocate whenever possible. The ladies liked to talk! One of my fondest memories is when Ken and Gloria entertained my parents for their 25th wedding anniversary at the cottage at Kenogami and the party was enjoyed by all. To quote an old Irish saying ” May God hold Gloria in the palm of his hand and not squeeze to tight “. To Ken, Laura and Duncan, hang in there, you folks are also in our thoughts. With Kindest Regards, Mitch and Jane Lavery Val-d’Or, Quebec

Gloria’s family is being sent my sincere condolences on behalf of my Aunt. Ruth McArthur-Johnson was one of Gloria’s devoted friends. My aunt would visit from Winnipeg and Vancouver and always would include a visit with Gloria her friend in Kirkland Lake when in the north visiting with her family. Ruth too is one of the multitudes inflicted with Alzheimer’s and is in a home in North Vancouver. I will cut out the notice from the Timmins Press and mail it to Ruth’s son Bradley. Even if Ruth is unreachable it will be important for Bradley to have the notice because of Gloria and Ruth’s friendship. I believe I called Gloria a few years ago to inform her that Ruth was diagnosed so that she wouldn’t be left wondering about a ‘certain absence’. Kindest Regards

Deborah McArthur, le 1 mars 2021
