WRIGHT, Fay

1933 - 2018

The death occurred at Englehart and District Hospital on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 of Hazel Fay Wright (nee Deline) of Englehart and formerly of Hilliardton in her 84th year. Beloved daughter of the late Hazel and Gerald Deline of Hilliardton, sister of the late Joan Carleton, daughter in law of the late Evelyn and Fred Wright of Stroud, wife of the late Glen Wright, mother of Gwen Hochheimer of Middle Sackville, NS and William Wright of Englehart. She will be fondly remembered by grandchildren Christopher Hochheimer (Schantel) of Calgary, AB, Katherine Wright (Ben Plaunt) of Cobalt and Robert Hochheimer (Susan Mackinnon) of Medicine Hat, AB. She leaves behind great – grandchildren William, Alex and Esmeralda Wright, Joans’ children Keith, Janet Martin, Joanne and Jerry Simmens and several nieces and nephews on Glens side of the family in Southern Ontario and the United States. Other special family members are Glens’ Aunt Marjorie Reid and her children of Stroud, ON and several cousins in the Deline and Cumming Families. She enjoyed the company of Bills step-children Chrissy Johnson, Sylvia Gauthier and Bradley Rohrer. She is the last member of her generation in our immediate family. Fay was the epitome’ of a ‘good Christian person’...kind, even tempered, emotionally and physically strong. She always put family, friends and community first. She was an avid gardener and quilter. She was a farmer most of her life, a Registered Nurse at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie specializing in Labour and Delivery. She is probably best known as the long time custodian of Hilliard SS#2, aka ‘the Hilliardton Public School’. In her early married life, she enjoyed playing broomball with the Hilliardton Klippers and baseball with the Shamrocks but she sacrificed those interests after a few years when the farm and the family became going concerns. Because she was willing and able to single-handedly run the farm on a regular basis, this allowed Glen the freedom to serve on the local school-board, on Twp council and as Reeve for several years and to coach Broomball and Hockey. It enabled her children to participate in local sports and in 4H which are things that not everyone in our community could afford to, or had time to take part in. We will be forever grateful for that. For many years, in addition to assisting with the heavy labour on the farm and working full-time outside the home, she did the accounting for the farm, Glens’ masonry contract work and for his school bus contract. She also cared for her widowed mother and mother in law (at the same time) in our home for several years. In the years before ‘911’ existed and before Home Care was widely available neighbours called upon her nursing skills for the occasional mishap and for dressing changes, insulin and allergy shot administration. She was a lifelong and active member of Tomstown Presbyterian Church, serving as the Sunday School Treasurer for about 40 years and working in the background at fund-raising events. She and Glen were avid amateur Ornithologists who always had a set of binoculars and bird-book nearby. They built and maintained about 200 bird-houses in Hilliard, Brethour and Ingram townships. They were the last private landowners of part of the land that the Hilliardton Marsh is on and were delighted to be associated with its existence. We were blessed to have her in our lives. She will be missed. A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 15th , 2018 at Ingram Twp Cemetery at 11am, followed by a luncheon at Tomstown Church. In lieu of cards or flowers please consider donating to the Hilliardton Marsh Research and Education Centre, 9552232ON569, Hilliardton, ON P0J 1L0, or Tomstown Presbyterian Church, c/o Colleen Walker, Box 116, Englehart, ON P0J 1H0.
