My condolences to you and your families. Always difficult to lose a loved one.
ARU, Evald (1925-2017)Born on a large farm in the commune of Vara, Estonia on January 18, 1925, Evald Aru’s 92 years ended at Teck Pioneer Residence in Kirkland Lake on June 24, 2017. Evald leaves behind his wife Ingrid of 67 years and his children Tiina (Steve Bailey) and Linda (Sandy Andrew). Grandfather to Vanessa, Landon (Sheri née Piche), Amy (Eric Clarke) and Cameron as well as great-grandfather to Kalev, Kristjan, Andren and Robert. Evald is the last of the Aru siblings but leaves behind extended family in Estonia. At the age of 19 he fought with fellow Estonians at Sinimäed (Blue Hills) and Auvere where he was twice wounded fighting to protect his homeland. Belgium became his post war home and it was there that he met his life-long love Ingrid Tamberg. Evald left coal mining in September 1950 when he and Ingrid made the stormy 2 week voyage across the Atlantic and arrived in Quebec City. They made Northern Ontario their home, first in Renabie and then in Kirkand Lake. Evald, or Ruby as he was known to many, worked in mining in B.C., Manitoba and at Macassa Mine, Jay Mar Plywood and finally at Adam’s Mine before he retired. Evald had a passion for working with wood. One of his cherished accomplishments was a collection of miniature farm machinery and he also made toys for the kids, kitchen tools for the adults and many large and small pieces in between. He greatly enjoyed the outdoors whether fishing, blueberry, strawberry and mushroom picking or tending to his vegetable garden. He was an excellent bridge and crib player. While he is missed by his family, the loss is greatest for Ingrid with whom he shared in some of his pastimes. Ingrid was also by his side for many adventures in Kenogami, Fraser Lake, Wawa, Myrtle Beach, and a few memorable trips back to their homeland of Estonia.A special thank-you to all of the staff at TPR for their care and compassion during Evald’s stay. The farewell procession was especially touching and meant a lot to us all.A big thank you to the French Family for their guidance through this process. At Evald’s request there will be no service. A private family celebration will be held this week and a gathering will take place at a later date at Fraser Lake.DONATIONS
