I’m pretty sure he was my principal at swastika elementary school years and years ago, in the 70’s. I remember him fondly. He’s a good man. I still think of him. Ivan Toney

We are sorry to hear of the loss of Mr. Butt. He was my first principal at Federal P.S. He had a great deal of patience with teachers and students. I remember one of his lessons. He said that “finders keepers losers weepers” was wrong because children should try to return what they find to the owner. No doubt he had many little lessons while dealing with student behaviours. Both Joan and Ted were very kind. When we adopted our twins, Joan brought over two little T-shirts for Jacob and Diane to welcome them to our family. Ted was a firm but good principal who treated everyone with respect. May God’s peace, presence and comfort be with you Joan in this new season of your life. Condolences to you and your family

Our hearts are broken having heard of your beloved Ted’s passing. I will forever remember with a smile our hockey travels many years ago. I will remember his passion as my teacher, and his love for all he taught, despite being stern he had a unique ability to teach well. I will cherish our talks, however there were too few of these last year’s. If there is anything I can do in this time or at anytime hereafter please don’t hesitate to call. We will never really lose him so long as we keep his memory strong in conversation, in our thoughts and prayers! All our love and condolences, Bobby and the Haskins family

I met Ted and his Mom when I was living at 48 McCamus. Ted was getting ready to be a teacher, his Mom was so proud! I had my Son Kyle while at 48 McCamus, and Mrs. Butt was my saviour! After Kyle was born one nite I was walking the floor, him crying. Mrs. Butt came downstairs and asked what’s wrong..I was waiting for the four hour feeding schedule, I thought I had to do four hours on the nose, she assured me NOT get that bottle and fill it up, I was waiting ,see His schedule was 4 oz. every four hrs. We had a very nice chat, I had a happy baby, Teds Mom was a gem. Just wanted you to know how much his Mom loved her boy! I’m so sorry for your loss, he was three yrs. younger than me, too young in my eye. I was just diagnosed with lymphoma, so I might meet 80 , how lucky am I. I will say a wee prayer, there will be a hole in your heart for sure, such a nice person. Love to all Marilyn

My brother Ted, was very special, he was much younger than our older brother Dave and myself, but we all had many fun times together. Ted and Joan were such a great help when our Mom was requiring extra care and both Dave and I were in southern Ontario. He was a wonderful Uncle to my three sons, it was Ted who influenced two of them to become avid curlers and who always gave them help with their golf swing. He was a younger brother to my husband, my favourite memory of them, was seeing them sitting on our front porch on a rather cool morning drinking Tim’s coffee(I’m sure Ted went for it) both with their caps on and having a great chat as they so often did. We will miss you so very much Ted.

Beth Henricks, le 1 mars 2021

Claudia & Dean Langley, le 1 mars 2021

To Joan and family, and relatives and friends: Please accept my deepest sympathy in the passing of a wonderful, loving, caring and gentle person – Ted. I know that times like this are difficult and we often wonder why someone had to leave us sooner than we wished. As Jesus Himself wept for his friend Lazarus, He showed us by raising him from the dead that he will do this for us one day. One day we will be together with Jesus who loves us no less than Lazarus, and with each other also. Until that time, I pray that God’s blessings and graces, along with all the great memories of Ted, will comfort and console you. For Ted, I pray that Eternal rest be granted unto him by our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and that His Perpetual Light shine on Ted forever. Remember, when the apostles asked Jesus how to pray, He said to pray as though your prayers have already been answered. I believe they have been answered for Ted. God bless.

Doug Barker, le 1 mars 2021

Dear Joan and Butt family: I am so sorry to hear of Ted’s passing. I am sending Angels to help you through your time of sorrow, and to remind you of all the great times you had together. Ted will be greatly missed in the wonderful community of Kirkland Lake.

Diane Doyon, le 1 mars 2021

While it has been many years since I last met Ted -one of the school reunions I think- Ted was a great friend and confidant during our high school years. As a golfer , my recollections of fairly even ‘earnings’ on the putting green and his setting the pace on the course are fine memories. I am not at all surprised to be reminded of his many contributions to civic life and our shared professional life. All too often, at this stage of our lives, we see the passing of friends that we knew. The family should take comfort in remembering that Ted’s presence among us all really mattered. I will miss him.

Douglas McChesney, le 1 mars 2021

Joan and family…. It is with deep sympathy that we send this condolence for the passing away of Ted. The Butt family was very special in my (Sid’s) working days at Lake Shore Mine. Ted’s father, Eddie Butt was the electrical foreman and was very supportable throughout my electrical training years at the mine. Ted’s older brother David with whom I had a good relationship, came upon the scene shortly before I moved on to new horizons. I met Ted in my early 50’s and had many conversations throughout our education years. Our thoughts and prayers are with you….

“–What is good has been explained to you, man; this is what Yahweh asks of you: only this, to act justly, to love tenderly and to walk humbly with your God.” (Micah 6:8) This is the Ted we came to know and love and are so blessed to have as a friend. May God Bless his soul and may He bring comfort and peace to each one of you. Love Always, Ursula & John

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Joan, Ed, Tim, Jana, Natalie and the entire Butt family on the loss of Ted. Our world just isn’t as great a place as it once was with Ted’s passing. The curling sheet created a special bond with Ted that I am very grateful for and I was privileged to have been teamed up with Ted for many years….he was a fantastic mentor for me and he should be proud to know his teaching skills extended well beyond the classroom…if you took the time just to witness Ted’s classy and gentlemanly demeanour both on and off the ice, you came away from the experience a better person! I feel truly blessed to have been able to share the “gift of Ted” on so many levels. Rest in Peace my friend! Jerry, Liz, Jesse and Marlee Robazza
