Dorothy
I am giving you my condolences to you and your family Karen Armstrong.
In the early hours of March 8, 2022, after battling cancer for 18 months, Dorothy Florence Turcott slipped away with her daughter by her side.
Born in Virginiatown on December 4, or December 6, 1946 (her mom said the 6th and her birth certificate said the 4th), Dorothy spent most of her life living, working and raising a family in her hometown.
Dorothy married Bruce Turcott in 1967 and they raised 2 children, Raymond and Karen together. She worked as a telephone operator for Northern Telephone and as a Postal Clerk for Canada Post.
As she neared retirement, Dorothy started her best job ever as the role of Granny to her grandson Thomas. She took up road hockey and played goalie for Thomas out in the driveway or in the kitchen with mini sticks.
When Bruce was diagnosed with dementia, Dorothy cared for him until his passing in 2019. The two were rarely seen apart during this time.
In 2019, Dorothy left Virginiatown and moved to Kirkland Lake to be closer to family.
Dorothy is predeceased by her parents, Douglas and Mary Hart, her sisters Muriel and Myrna, sisters in law Liliane Turcott, Mary Turcott and Linda Hart, brother in law Brian Turcott, her son Raymond Turcott and her Husband of 52 years, Bruce Turcott.
She is survived by her daughter Karen Armstrong (Jim Fox), grandchildren Thomas Armstrong, Ella and Jude Fox, her brothers Butch Hart, Lloyd Hart and his wife Pat, Brothers in law Earl Turcott, Lloyd Turcott, sister in law Cindy Portelance, many nieces and nephews and her cat, Rusty.
Thank you to Betty Smallwood of Timiskaming Palliative Care, the 4th floor staff as well as Sierra and Kristen at the hospital for your kindness and compassion during Dorothy’s final weeks, to Kelico, Sherry, Pat and Cindy for the hours spent sitting with us at the hospital, to Pat Hart for caring for Rusty during Dorothy’s illness, to Luc for adopting Rusty and to all friends and family for your support throughout this difficult journey.
Dorothy did not wish to have a funeral so please take the time to remember her as a woman who faced cancer with dignity and bravery and remained positive to the end without complaint. If you would like to make a donation to to Timiskaming Palliative care in Dorothy’s memory, it would be greatly appreciated.

I had the pleasure of teaching Dorothy in an adult swimming class a couple of years ago. She was so positive, determined and funny (and possibly the oldest person to go down the slide at the complex). I am so grateful to have met her, she made an impact on my life during our short experience together.
George and I are heartbroken. We had such a wonderful time this past summer reminiscing and catching up while your mom stayed at our place in Elora while she was doing treatments. Our friends welcomed her with open arms and they are missing her too. My Aunt Dorothy was such a loving aunt and we had a great connection. I’m going to miss our talks but will treasure the moments we had this past summer. She was amazed at the cardinals that would visit our deck. I’m sure I will get a special visit❤️❤️ Just remember how much your mom loved you and Thomas who was the number one grandson!! Sending our love

We are so sorry to hear of Dorothy's passing. She was a beautiful, strong, kind woman. My memories go all the way back to grade school when I was invited often to her house for lunch. The world has lost a very special lady.
Mrs. Turcott embodied grace and dignity. She was one of the best humans I have ever come across and to have known her was to be so fortunate.
You are so lucky to have had her and I am so sorry such a fabulous force has left.
She will be missed by the world but mostly by you.
I wish I could bring her back for you … she deserves to be living forever. She was just that fantastic.
All my love
