BEARD, Dorothy Teague

1933 - 2015

Dorothy passed away on July 14, 2015 peacefully at home in the arms of loving family after a brief illness. Mom was born in Cobalt Ontario to Elsie (Manchester, England) and James (Chacewater Cornwall, England) Teague. Other than her family, teaching was Mom’s life. She taught elementary school for the most part at Federal Public School in grades 2 and 3. Her classroom was always full of interesting finds in nature and artwork that her students had created. Mom’s “school kids” received her love and support and as a result, so many have told us that Mom was their favorite teacher. Each summer, Mom and Dad would use the projector to cast images on the wall that we would trace, cut out and color to help decorate her classroom for the coming year. After retirement, she loved to spend time nurturing her grandchildren and her gardens. Mom was an amazing baker and cook; our freezers were always stocked with her wonderful bread, raisin buns, turkey pies and decadent treats. She made sure that each of her grandchildren had a freezer stocked with casseroles, goodies and treats while away at school. Our holiday tables were always full of amazing food, homemade dinner rolls and several choices of dessert. Her cream pies always disappeared first. She spent time with all of us teaching us the finer points of baking and how to do things right. She always said: “if you are going to do something, do it well.” Even our dogs will miss her treats. Dad said he first asked Mom out when they met skating at the arena on a Friday night in 1952.They have been together ever since. Dorothy is survived by her husband William, daughters Sandra (Carlo Dal Pai), Nancy (Sean O’Connor), and Marjorie (Paul Harvey) and her grandchildren Amelia and Anthony Dal Pai, Lauren O’Connor-Byer (Joshua Byer), Kristyn and Neil O’Connor, and Christopher and Abbey Harvey. She is also survived by her sister Mary McLenaghan (late Robert), and brothers Leonard and Norman (Shirley) Teague as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. We would like to thank Dr. Sara Kurki for her wonderful compassion, and for helping us to honour Mom’s wish to die at home. We would also like to thank our extended families, coworkers, friends and neighbors for their love and support during this incredibly difficult time. There are simply not enough words to convey how special Mom was to all of us and how deeply she will be missed. She filled our lives with unconditional love which we will we carry with us always. ‘One foot in front of the other’; Mom, we will be walking with you. As per Mom’s request, there will be no service, and cremation has taken place. In memory, donations to the Kirkland Lake and District Family Health Team PO Box 10 Kirkland Lake, Ontario P2N 3M6 will be gratefully accepted. “Grief is the last act of love we have to give to those we loved. Where there is deep grief, there was great love.
