Waugh, Donald - Avis de décès | Timiskaming Funeral Cooperative

Waugh, Donald

WAUGH, Donald

1949 - 2022

Early on December 29th, in the comfort of his home and surrounded by his family, Don passed from this world into the presence of his Lord and Saviour.  Throughout his many months of battling cancer, his faith enabled him to face each day with courage and peace.

Don was born July 17, 1949 in New Liskeard to Roy and Hilda Waugh.  He graduated from the Haileybury School of Mines in 1970 and nine years later returned there as an instructor in the Industrial Instrumentation program.  He thoroughly enjoyed teaching and interacting with his students as well as the friendship of his co-workers.

Don was an avid outdoorsman, fisherman and gardener.  His greatest love, however, was for his Lord and for his family and friends.  He served as an elder at Thornloe Crossroads Baptist Church for many years, and he was so thankful for his church family.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Joan, his daughter Jennifer (Andrew) Service, sons Andrew and Steven (Jessica) Waugh and his grandchildren Braydon (Emily), Emma, and Kyle Service and Carson Waugh who all brought him so much joy.  He is also survived by his sister Kathryn and brother Brian and their families.

Don was very grateful for the compassionate care of his entire medical team.  His family offers special thanks to Dr. Currie and staff, Dr. Leger-Nolet, Dr. Jani, and Dr. Pace.

Visitation will be held at Timiskaming Funeral Cooperative - Perrin Chapel, on January 2nd from 2-4PM and 7-9PM.  Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 3rd at 10AM at Temiskaming Pentecostal Church - 583472 Haileybury West Road.

If desired, donations in Don’s memory may be made to Samaritan’s Purse (https://www.samaritanspurse.ca) or Gideons-Share Word Global (https://sharewordglobal.com/ca/).

Janie and I would like to pass on our sincere condolences to you and the family.
Having worked at the Haileybury campus it was always a pleasure to chat with Don. He had a good testimony both in the instrumentation program and his spiritual walk with the Lord.
May you know the presence of the Lord at this time of sorrow.

My sincere condolences to all of for your loss. I met Don at HSM and Joan through Northdale Manor years ago. They are both the kindest, selfless, most genuine people I have ever met. Don always had a little chuckle and sinister smile in his conversations. He always saw the positive in every situation and was well respected. He spoke very highly of his family and was very proud of his faith and heritage. I will miss “bumping into him” occasionally and catching up and chatting with him. ❤️

Lakshmi, Hari, and I wish to extend our condolences. My father, KV, was a colleague of Don's for many years at the Haileybury School of Mines and both cared deeply about the quality and reputation of its education programs. Don made a huge impact in the lives of many students. We all admired him because he always stood up for what was right, and we admired his faith in God. Our family is praying for you during this difficult time.

So many memories growing up with cousin Don. Then I was privileged to be in his first class at HSM. He was a great example of faith and service to our loving God and his Saving Son, Jesus. It is sad to be apart for a while, but look forward to eternity with him and other saints.

Kathryn and Brian

I remember your dear brother Donald as I was growing up and attending Dale's Hill school. He was such a fair minded, wonderful young boy, and friend and cousin as I recall. After every elementary school day I waited for my bus at your home at the foot of Dale's Hill. Sometimes I even stayed overnight and your Mom would help me learn English grammar. Your family had the first television I ever watched. Donald and Kathryn and Brian, you three were such a big part of my life . I remember the Mediterranean style stucco covered home and the big weeping willow tree. Later in life, I was able to visit the battlefield and the adjacent cemetery where Roy and Jesse's brother was laid to rest in Italy. In my garden in Guelph I have a large weeping willow tree growing. It is a reminder of that tree in your yard. In our home in Italy we insisted on stucco walls. The influences of childhood friends and connections have reverberated throughout my life. I wish for you, many wonderful memories of your dear brother. I pray for peace for all as you go through this time of loss. Kathleen (Kay) (Proud) Verdone. Guelph, Ontario

Today, I became aware of Don's passing. I was shocked to learn this and sorry that I haven't seen him in so many years. The last time I talked to him was when I was a business student at the Haileybury School of Mines in 1996.

Mr. Waugh, as I always called him, was a great man, who I had a great deal of respect for. He always treated everybody fairly. He was a Deacon when I attended Thornloe Crossroads Baptist Church as a young man and I recall looking up to him and having great discussions with him. I can also remember as a teenager when your family would pick me up in New Liskeard, so that I could attend my home church.

I know that he is in Heaven now. Please accept my condolences. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

I spoke to Joan today and found out the sad news that Don had passed away. He had suffered for so long and now found his peace with the Lord. May the God continue to bless you and your family and keep you strong.
