Danny & family
Danny, deepest condolences to you, your family & Korhonen's on the passing of Debbie from Dave & I.
Debra-Lynn (Korhonen) Barrette, November 5th, 1959-May 9th, 2021 passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Debbie was the eldest, Hippie spirited daughter of June & John Korhonen. She had 3 siblings, who were crazy about her: Bonnie (Bruce) Crichton, Peter (Linda) Korhonen & Penny (Garry) Fournel. Her incredibly talented husband, Danny, has lovingly been right by her side, jammin with her for over 32 years. She has 4 incredible children who love her beyond words: Charlie Ruttan, Trina-Lee (Dan) Mench, Stephan (Emilie) Barrette & James Barrette. Deb had 4 Grandchildren that she adored and lovingly spoiled: Kayla, Meaghan, Alyssa & Leo, as well as 2 Great Grandchildren: Luca & Lincoln. Debbie was surrounded by loving in-laws, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends who were like family.
Debbie’s love of performances started very early on when at only 6 months old, she captured hearts and won the cutest baby contest. From then on, Deb’s flower-child spirit blossomed, with music in her soul. The cottage in Tarzwell, her decorated yards and outdoor music festivals have always been her jam. Deb’s love of music meant she knew the words to every Beatles & Eagles song ever written. She was always up for any concert or jam session. What a Groupie!
Deb loved collections. Whether it related to music, coins, stamps, art, or her love of the outdoors, Debbie had many favourites throughout the years. Her love for fashion was always apparent. The iconic PEACE sign and musical notes often formed part of her everyday style. Her flair for colour, tie-dye and jewelry could not be missed. Her passion for all things joyful and bright also translated to her yard, making sure it was well decorated for every season and holiday. Her hobby that perhaps her family and friends benefitted from the most was her love for quilting and sewing, having made more than 150 quilts for her loved ones over the years.
Deb only had one functioning lung. Debbie struggled with debilitating lung disease for many years following a work incident. Just 5 years ago, she conquered a lung transplant. She came out of that surgery with that zest for life that we all know so well. She got her voice back and used it so well, and you couldn’t miss that laugh. Thanks to Deb’s donor family, she sang and danced so much in these past 5+ years. Deb’s transplant allowed her to do the things she loved most: working with Dan in the yard, going out for meals with family, shopping with her mom and her sisters, exercise classes and projects with her dad, hanging out with the kids, and so much precious time with the grandchildren.
“Mom” was her favourite name. Always with Danny, and surrounded by her children, being with family and friends was what she loved the most. Music, food & love. Everyone who knew Deb knows her family is her pride and joy. She travelled in a pack – the family was one solid unit. Deb had the most devoted, generous and musical soul, a creative, colourful eye, and a passionate loving heart. Her spirit will live on in our thoughts, pictures and memories.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Canadian Blood Services, in support of organ transplants. Please be a donor.
The family would like to thank the community for the outpouring of love they have received in recent weeks. A special thank you to VON (Pauline, Jessica, Katelyn, Debbie and Shannon) for the care they have provided to keep Debbie comfortable at home.
“All My Lovin”

So sorry to hear about your loss.
I am so sorry to hear of Debs passing. She was one of a kind and had a heart of gold. She loved life and lived it to the fullest. Penny could not have explained her sisters life any differently, if you didn't have the pleasure of knowing Deb before you would now. She was granted five more years after her lung transplant and she lived them to the fullest. She is now in the hands of the angles so rest peacefully Deb Gloria and Willie Semple
