Colleen was a special lady. She always had a smile and was always interested in you and yours. When I saw her last in the hospital she asked about our new grandchild and when I showed her pictures she was delighted. Our thoughts and prayers are with all the family. Susan and Don

WHELAN, Colleen June (née Culhane) Died peacefully at the Kirkland and District Hospital on April 6th, 2014, at the age of 78. Colleen was a devoted daughter, loving wife and mother, an adoring grandmother and great grandmother, an amazing sister and aunt who loved all unconditionally. She saw each day as a blessing and could find joy in the simplest of things. She could find the positive in any situation and was always grateful for even the smallest act of kindness shown to her. Colleen was a retired pediatric nurse who worked at the Kirkland and District Hospital and the Kirkland Lake Day Care Center. She was a faithful member of the Holy Name of Jesus Parish and a 50 year member of the CWL. She was predeceased by her father Neil Culhane Sr., her mother Mable Culhane (née Warren), her husband Maurice Whelan, son James Whelan and brothers James Culhane and Neil Culhane Jr, her father-in-law Michael Whelan Sr., mother-in-law Nina Whelan, brothers’-in-law Howard Whelan, David Whelan, and Jack Whelan and sister-in-law Kay Whelan. She will be greatly missed by her daughter Mary Katherine Whelan (Darwin Hack), her grand children Jennifer Whelan (Dan Roy), Kayla Hack, Shana Hack, Brooklyn Hack and Kelsey Whelan, her great granddaughters Jaden Roy and Emerald Roy, her sister Sharon Stevens (Andy), her brothers Kelly Culhane (Mary) and Brian Culhane (Mary), her brothers-in-law Michael Whelan (Sandy), Paul Whelan (Marg), sisters-in-law Helena Purdon (Jim), Joan Whelan, Yvonne Whelan and Penny Culhane, daughter-in-law Robin Dejardins and many nieces and nephews. A memorial mass for Colleen will be held at Holy Name of Jesus Parish on Friday April 11, 2014 at 2:30 p.m. with Father Mills officiating.
