I have so many fond memories of Carl and the 50+ years that we played together in various bands in the Kirkland Lake area that I think it best to give a broad picture of those many wonderful and exciting times. Whether it was the Algonquin Regimental Band, the Station Road Saints, The Stardusters, or the Carl Reinholt Quartet, Carl was always upbeat,energizing, full of laughs and eager. Any dance in Elk Lake, Matachewan, the American(later-Canadian) military base at Ramore, Temagami or Tri-Towns, formal or informal occasion, always found our leader super prepared, rehearsed and ready to perform! Carl strove for perfection in all that interested him: music, bridge, singing, jogging/fitness, friendships, business and community services. I’ll remember best the weekend dances we played in so many venues across the north,our dapper musicians,the early morning arrivals at home,the ‘wee hour’ Chinese meals, the many laughs we shared, the revamping of our ‘gigs’ and the promise of another ‘night-out’ event the following Friday or Saturday evening. I thank-you good friend for these and so many other memories that will not be soon forgotten.

I was so sad to hear about the passing of Mr. Reinholt. I first met Mr. Reinholt around twenty-some years ago when I signed up for his Grade 9 music class. I was the shy kid who was still trying to find my place in high school. I found it in his class and I signed up for his music class every year until his retirement in 1992. Mr. Reinholt brought all kinds of music into our lives – classical, popular, big band and jazz – and we grew to love all kinds of music in his class. Mr. Reinholt truly loved his jazz and big band music – that’s where we saw him light up the most. He was a very dedicated teacher – spending his lunch hours and after school helping us perfect our musical skills in concert band. He even spent a good chunk of his free time trying to teach me trombone but I just couldn’t reach seventh position. But I did appreciate his efforts. In 1991, he decided to take our high school concert band to Florida and spent much of his spare time in the evenings helping us fund-raise the event. And what a trip it was! I have to commend Mr. Reinholt for surviving a week with a group of lively teenagers 24/7. Mr. Reinholt also had his own musical pursuits. Towards the end of my high school career, he invited me to play keyboard in his band – a request I was more than happy to fulfill. There, I met many people who had played in a band with my late grandfather (whom I had never met as he passed away before I was born). There, I heard many stories about my grandfather from his musical comrades and I was so grateful for the opportunity to get to know my grandfather in this way. Mr. Reinholt will always hold a special place in my heart and will be missed dearly. In the words of Jimmy Durante – “I’ll Be Seeing You”.

A great musical friend, a valuable member of the community as well as a faithful member of Trinity Church Choir and congregation, Carl will be missed by both Mike and me. Carl was one of the first people I met when I arrived in KL some 43 years ago now and was always a great person to work with, especially when I first started teaching instrumental music after he retired.Our sympathies to Toni and Lindsay, and all of Carl’s extended family. I’m sorry we’re not in Kirkland Lake to attend the memorial service, but our thoughts will be with you all.

So sorry to hear the sad news. I will always remember Carl’s Office Supply / music store and dreaming of owning an electric guitar like the ones on display there. Later, The electric guitar came from a different source but I bought my strings from Carl and an acoustic guitar. Carl was a fine musician and contributed a lot to all of us. He will be fondly remembered.

I’m sorry to hear of the loss of another fine musician from the Kirkland Lake camp. I always respected Mr.Reinholt as a teacher and musician (unless he was kicking me out of class, even then my respect for him didn’t waver). I’ll miss him in the Churchill Drive Swing Band. I did buy my first Gibson guitar from Carl. Wish I stil had it. Carl was a fine musician and he did his utmost to help up and coming players. I owe a lot to Carl. Rest in peace buddy.

My deepest condolences Lindsay – your father was a well respected member of the community. I treasure the wonderful memories I have of him and our trips together with Aunt Eve. The Nowry family is thinking of you and your family at this difficult time.

From our high school dance band “the Septones” through the Algonquin Regiment Band, the K.L. Concert Band, the Station Road Saints Dixieland Band, I spent many hours enjoying music with Carl. We will miss Carl in the musical community. I’ve learned a lot over the past 3 decades from Carl. I guess the torch has been oficially passed as I will now be Kirkland Lakes Resident Trumpet Player. I have some big shoes to fill come future Nov. 11th gatherings at the Cenotaph. Sheila will also miss Carl in the Trinity Church Choir as well as the years that he was involved with the Interlink Choir. Condolences to Marlene, Jack and Lindsay We will always remember Carl’s laugh, humor and love of life. We had many enjoyable visits together over more than 40 years, Carl was always family! Now those visits are treasured memories. I was just a boy when Carl and Ev took me in to live with them. Carl became my mentor, confidant and friend. He gave up trying to teach me how to play the horn, but he taught me how to look over the horizon and follow my dreams. His love of music can be remembered in many ways, but one that stands out is when he played Taps in the Algonquin Band at those cold Veteran Day Parades while the 912th Air Squadron and the public listened. But there was more to Carl than just music, he loved to fish, hunt and maybe party just a bit. Have one for CJ. We know Gabriel will like his new horn player. God Bless.

Carl played in bands and at parties with my uncle Jay Glover in the 1940s, 50s and 60s. All three of our own children attended KLCVI in the 1980s and 90s and took music classes from Carl, played in his bands and took band trips. Those chilly Remembrance Day celebrations at the KL cenotaph will not be the same without Carl and his horn but rest assured one of his students will be there to carry on the tradition. Uncle Carl, I have fond memories as a child going to Kirkland Lake to visit you and Aunt Evelyn and the times you would come to our family home in Haileybury and Temagami. You will be sadly missed! Love Lori, Dale, Alicia, Amber and Arielle.

Marlene, Toni and Lindsay…..the many enjoyable years of knowing Carl as a friend and as a conductor in the Algonquin band, concert band and playing trumpet in our dance band, are indelibly etched in my mind….my wife Myrta and I send our deepest sympathy and have you in our prayers……..

I have so many fond memories of my Uncle Carl. He brought so much laughter into our house when he would visit us in Florida back when I was a little girl. Uncle Carl would always bring a few of his instruments along so my sisters and I could play them – which was a huge treat for us. He was such a caring and giving person and he will be missed by so many that were fortunate enough to have known him.

Dear Marlene, family and friends of Carl, what a great loss to Kirkland Lake! He was my second trumpet teacher when I was starting in music, we had so much fun at my lessons in the apartment above the Strand Theatre. It was always a special time for me when we played duets together at the end of our lessons, especially when he would open the window on Government Road and let the sound come out. Mom(Marlene), Uncle Jack and Lindsay, How sad it is to have heard from Mom letting me know that Uncle Carl has passed away. I have many memories of Uncle Carl at home, at the cottage. It always made me laugh how he couldn’t help but to correct me when I spoke to ensure I spoke properly. Needlessly to say some of those things stuck. I remember when I found out Lindsay was going to be born my first reaction was what? I’m not going to be the only granddaughter anymore…but I was happy to have her arrive. Lindsay has grown into a fantastic young lady and Uncle Carl couldn’t be more proud of her and all she is. Mom I know you did all you could for Uncle Carl and he appreciated everything it is you did…he loved you very much and was thankful for you being there for him no matter what it was or when he needed you. I was saddened on hearing the news of Carl’s passing. Then the memories started to flood back of his good humor, wide smile, his encouragement & his love of music.In times gone by (when we were all much younger) we all looked forward to our Sunday rehearsals at the Kly Club (K.L. Youth Club)& with Carl’s guidance we all became more proficient musicians.On my many trips back to Kirkland Lake, I always enjoyed trading stories with Carl & noticing that he was still nurturing young musicians & organizing small groups & concert bands. I am so sorry to hear this news. I, like many of his former students and colleagues, have many fond memories from school stage bands, concert bands and more. Carl had a profound impact on our musicality and personal growth. Getting my masters of music may not have been possible without his influence. Please accept my sincere condolences on his passing.
