After a three-week illness, Temagami resident Anna Borecki died August 4, 2015, at the Temiskaming Hospital. She was born in Novi Slankamen, Yugoslavia, on November 16, 1923, to Anton Blantz and Katavina Welbel. She married Karol Borecki in Branau, Austria. Anna (`Oma`) arrived in Canada in 1949 with her husband Karol. They began their new life in Temagami working at the Gillies Sawmill. Oma worked for many years as a cook, first at the sawmill and then at the Shell Restaurant. She loved oil painting, gardening and watching the birds. Her most cherished times were at the Anima Nipissing cottagewith her family and her cat Misty. She found Misty abandoned at the cottage one late November evening several years ago. Anna is most famous for her `Oma` cookies that have travelled around the world and made many friends for her grandchildren when care packages arrived. Pre-deceased by her husband Karol, Anna is survived by her son Walter (Janet), grandchildren Laura (Jeff), Stephen (Beth), Bryan (Jennifer) and great-grandchildren Ava, Wyatt, Anna and Molly, and by her sister Barbara who lives in Germany and her brother Sepp. A Celebration of Life service will be held at St. Elizabeth`s Catholic Church in Temagami on Monday September 14, 2015 at 11 am.
