Albert Gauthier was born to Earlton farmers, Paul Gauthier and Jeannette Loranger. A pilar of the community, he was first and foremost a proud farmer and businessman. Moreover, he was a dedicated and determined man who played an important role in promoting French culture and language, particularly in the field of agriculture. For example, he was a member of the Ontario Milk Marketing Board where he worked on behalf of Temiskaming farmers for more than 30 years, ensuring that local French speaking dairy producers received services in French. Throughout the years, Albert contributed to a number of organisations, including the Armstrong Township Municipal Council, the Farm Credit Corporation, the United Co-operatives of Ontario, the Ontario Federation of Agriculture, TemGrain Coop, etc. He was also a provincial representative of the Dairy Herd Improvement Corp. and a member of the Vetenary Committee for Timiskaming. Moreover, Albert gave much of his time to other community organisations such as the Centre de santé du Témiskaming, the Lions Club, the Knights of Columbus and the ACFO du Témiskaming. Members of the community will remember Albert’s significant contribution to the Temiskaming region as vice-president of the 2009 International Plowing Match. It should be noted that, thanks to his input, the event was held in both official languages for the first time in the history of this world class event. Albert Gauthier leaves behind his wife of more than 57 years, Jeanne d’Arc (Rivard); three children Jacqueline (Doug Newfeld), Yves and Rémi (Annie Lajoie) and ten grandchildren : Émilie and Pascale Léveillé, Leïla Reguigui, Marie-Jeanne, Jérémi, Cédric, Jacob, Angel, Annie and Danika Gauthier.
