Montminy, Aaron Micheal

MONTMINY, Aaron Micheal

1979 - 2021

In loving memory of Aaron Micheal Montminy, who passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family at Ottawa General Hospital on May 14, 2021.  Aaron fought a courageous 9-month battle with a rare T-cell pro-lymphocytic leukaemia. He was 41.

Aaron was born on June 27th, 1979 in Kirkland Lake, ON to Ginny and Mike Montminy and was raised in Englehart, ON.  As a child, Aaron was known for being very talkative, friendly and kind; and for being a big fan of Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls.  His interests soon changed, however; Aaron found his destiny when he met his high school sweetheart Jennifer Schippers when he was only 15.  Aaron and Jen were true soulmates and were married in 2003.  Aaron was the proud father of their three children: Felicity, Jonathan, and Maria, the lights of his life. Aaron was a devoted father to 'Figgy', 'Johnny' and 'RiRi',saying he would need to, "write a book to explain how proud he was" of each of them. His children remember their father as a great teacher; Aaron always had time for his family and could spend hours chatting and helping them research any topic in which they showed interest. He was very involved in his children’s lives and volunteered often with their classes, tying skates and chaperoning field trips. Many who know the family will remember just how 'involved' Aaron was in the birth of his youngest daughter Maria, whom he helped Jen deliver on the side of HWY 11 (using his shoelace to tie the cord).

Aaron worked at Ontario Northland Railway for over twenty years as a Rail Traffic Controller (RTC) and relieving manager. Aaron (aka AMM) took great pride in his work, as his coworkers can attest.  He was great at his job and was well respected by his work family.

Aaron was well known for being just a really nice guy. He could strike up a conversation with anyone. Aaron was a knowledgeable man and could talk to you about anything: from cars and electronics, to politics and family. If you had a question about anything or needed advice, he was the person to go to. Ever humble, Aaron was always truthful and willing to listen. Aaron took after his parents in his service to the community, often volunteering to set up sound systems for the Rotary concert or a last-minute memorial service. Of course, Aaron was also an expert in the Toronto Raptors and could be relied upon to update friends and neighbours on the latest trade, score, or Raptor news. He passed this passion to his children; the game time cheers of the whole family could probably be heard all the way down at the Raps' home court!

Aaron loved life, and time with him was always memorable. Aaron was hilarious! He could do the best impressions of truly anyone: friends, family, Talking Tom, the Trailer Park Boys, you name it.  Anyone who spent time with Aaron is sure to have a funny story or two.  He was a great DJ; he knew what people wanted to hear and always had music playing in the background. It didn’t matter the song; he was always moving to the beat of the music, doing a little jig or tapping his feet.

The cottage is where Aaron was able to do the things he enjoyed the most: spending quality time with family and friends for midnight campfires, pulling the kids on the tube behind his boat, family game days in the gazebo, cooking delicious meals on the BBQ, and living “life on the deck” in his zero-gravity chair. He especially looked forward to visits from the Henhoeffers and Holwells each summer. If you couldn't find Aaron, you knew he was on the beach with his feet up on “flat rock” and a cold beer in his hand.

Aaron is survived by his wife and best friend of over twenty years, Jennifer; and his children, Felicity, Jonathan and Maria. He is also survived by his mother, Virginia (Ginny) Montminy, his sister Vanessa Montminy and brother-in-law Travis Ryan, parents-in-law Richard (Skip) and Mary Schippers, sister-in-law Johanna Paradis and brother-in-law Lee Paradis, niece Aurora Paradis and nephew Mackenzie Paradis, sister-in-law Leslie Schippers and brother-in-law Derek Armstrong, and cousin “Emma C”. Aaron is predeceased by his father Mike Montminy and his grandparents George and Estelle Montminy. Aaron is also survived by many Montminy, Schinkel, Blancher and Hodgson uncles, aunts and cousins.

On behalf of the family, Jen would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the friends, family and community members who have given so much support over this incredibly difficult time. A celebration of Aaron's life will be held as soon as safety allows. Memorial donations may be made to Canadian Blood Services or Community Cancer Care New Liskeard.

Aaron will be remembered always and forever missed. ON RTC Englehart out.
