Well, what can we say about one of the pillars of Jordan Lake. This lady was known to dance the best jig at our cottagers deck dances. All of us would stand around chatting and visiting while looking on Yvonne, hoping in our not so steady minds, that we weren’t next on her dance card. She would dance with Gerry, and the only one who would keep up with him as they 2-stepped around, smiling and coaxing others to follow suit. What a pair! The heavens have another angel who will be looking down on us and making sure we all live life large, just like they did. As the kids grew up, they were never surprised to see Nanny with a beer and a couple of cute cottage men in her company. She always enjoyed every visit they made to her cottage and although we had many treats offered to us, Carl always warned us over and over, “Never eat what she’s offering, it has been in that fridge forever”. We were always guiding the kids to the chips pop and peanuts, they couldn’t go blue moldy from living at the cottage from may till September! And how many of our kids can say she gave them their first beer? The kids were always amazed that Nanny always had crafts and stuff to be done, and they always enjoyed doing it. When Yvonne was hanging over her rail, they couldn’t get by without a visit. Bless her heart, she was one of the rare gems of Jordan Lake and will be missed alot.

Gerry will be happy to see his dancing partner ready to dance a jig or two. Mind you he may have to ask Chuck’s permission. Jordan Lake is slowly loosing the pioneers of this environment yet, the younger generation must not forget the joy experienced in the beginning of the Jordan Lake Holdings. We need to keep those memories alive. Deepest sympathies to Carl, Ann and family.

Carl, Ann, Bradley & Robin, We are truly so saddened at the news of the passing of “Nanny”. Jordan Lake has lost another beautiful spirit and leaves another angel to look over and guide us all. We are truly blessed at TPR to have served Yvonne until her final day. Coaxing her to the dining room often, as she spoke about her “apartment” being so beautiful was one of my greatest pleasures. Knowing she had a beautiful bowl of soup waiting in the “restaurant up the street” gave her enough energy to sit with her “sisters” and enjoy a nice chat. She helped us keep princess dining room tidy and folded the bibs with great pride. With heavy hearts! Kevin & Patti

Carl & Ann, I am very sorry to hear about the loss of your mom. I didn’t know her but just reading the stories, she sounds like she was a beautiful lady. Thoughts are with you during this time.

I was known to Matante as I called her, as “Pumpkin Head” for my red hair, Matante (my aunt) had a sense of humour like no other, she was extremely funny, to the point, very kind and giving, loved kids and family, she never showed her feelings much just kept a smile on her face most of the time, and made you feel like everything was going to be alright. She was there for me as a child growing up in Kirkland for the few years we lived there, she had old home movies that I remember watching of us kids, myself Carl, Annette, they were funny and everyone was having a good time. Matante came to Thunder Bay when my mom died her sister Flo as we called her, she was there for me then, stood by the family and held us up through that difficult time. My mom and Yvonne always stuck together as kids, they lived life to the fullest in those hard times, the family made the best of their situation, their mom died early and I am sure it was not easy for all of them to fend for themselves and each other. Yvonne was a beautiful women both inside and out, she stood tall amongst her siblings, and her smile and laugh I will not forget, I will miss her dearly she was “the cream of the crop” as they say for sure, I will use her example to laugh at life not be so serious, it all works out in the end, goodbye Matante I will miss you dearly, I wish I could have spent more time with you in your later years, I know your up there watching out for all of us with your family, just make sure I still meet that cute guy you so wanted so much for me to find in my life I know you will steer me to that from up there. Here is a beer Salute to You Matante, good job old gal. A bientot! Love Estelle
