Werner Burck of Kenabeek died peacefully at Englehart & District Hospital, surrounded by family, on August 10, 2019, at the age of 94. Born in Darmstadt, Germany on January 19, 1925, to Anna (Hoffman) and Heinrich Burck, Werner lived a full life with energy and determination. In 1949, he married Anna Hildegard Schmuck. Seven years later, they immigrated to Canada with their young son. After two decades in Toronto and Milton, and four more children, Werner fulfilled his dream of living in the Canadian wilderness when they moved to Kenabeek in 1975. Pragmatic and direct, he loved his family and worked tirelessly for them. He didn`t like to ask for help, but was always ready to help others. A man of his word, he saw things through to the end and never quit. And he did it all with an unexpected touch of elegance. Full of curiosity, Werner loved to travel, and he read widely -- Chinese culture, world history, science, gardening, art, mysteries, literary journals. He`d always make time for a crossword, preferably accompanied by fine dark chocolate. Wine-making, oil painting, bird-watching, furniture building -- he was good at just about anything he tried. Except computers; they frustrated him like nobody`s business. Pre-deceased by his parents, his brother Guenter and step-brother Hans. Missed by his loving wife Anna Hildegard; children Manfred (Tracy), Erika, Alex (Cecilia), Andrea and Keylin; and grandchildren Sierra and Josh. The family is grateful to all the hospital staff who tended to him so kindly and patiently over the past year, after his diagnosis of dementia. A celebration of Werner’s life will be arranged in several weeks, and details will be shared here.
