MARTIN, Wallace ` Wally ` Nesbitt Papa

1923 - 2011

Wallace `Wally` Martin of Englehart died suddenly on February 4, 2011, at the Englehart and District Hospital. He was born in Bowmanville, Ontario, on March 28, 1923 to Thomas and Phyliss Martin. Educated at Brentha School, Mr. Martin married Kathleen Leona Hayes in Toronto on March 14, 1942. Mr. Martin worked in masonry in Toronto and in mines in Sudbury and Kirkland Lake. He was a mechanic at Willis Greer Garage in Englehart and at the Adams Mine. He was a good father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He taught his grandchildren how to make things, to cook and how to deal with life. They could go to him with any problem and he knew the answer. His own children respected him and knew they could go to him with any problem. He respected others and always had a smile on his face and most people called him Papa Wally. Mr. Martin was always there to give a helping hand to anyone. He was famous for his crow call at dances and when people heard this in downtown Englehart they would look for him. Mr. Martin is survived by his sisters Marjorie Fossey and Phyliss Nicholson; children Larry of Vernon, British Columbia, Linda (Mike) Kingston, Lance, Lana Ward (friend Leandre Desrosiers), all of Englehart; grandchildren Micheline and Mark Paquette, Jon and Carla Martin, David Berry, Tim Kingston and Tracy, Derek Kingston and Tammy, Lisa and Dan Robert, Darren Martin, Michael and Melissa Ward, Micheline Ward and Scott, Stephanie Martin; great-grandchildren Isabella, Sophie, Madeline, Jacob, Mackenzie, Cameron and Kairi; daughters-in-law Sue Martin, Claire Martin and son-in-law Ron Ward. He was predeceased by his wife Kathleen, parents Thomas and Phyliss Martin, brothers Tommy, Jim, Gord, Glenn, and sisters Betty and Helen. The funeral service was held February 7 at McDonald Funeral Home in Englehart, conducted by Jessica Cottrell. Burial is in the spring at the Englehart Cemetery. Relatives and friends attending the service from out of town came from Ottawa, Kirkland Lake, Brentha Township and Charlton. In memory contributions to the Englehart Hospital Clinic Expansion Fund would be appreciated by the family. Condolences, contributions and memorial candles may be left at www.mcdonaldfuneralhome.ca.
