Paula I just heard today of Tony’s passing & am sending condolences along with my love. Doreen Graham( nee Riley)
POLONI, Tony (1921 – 2015)
Hotelier, entrepreneur, ambassador, character, deserving a full chapter in the singular history of Kirkland Lake, Tony Poloni earned his place here by his wits, his luck, his charm, his strength, and he lives on in the hearts of so many people lucky enough to have met him that these few words, on this page, can never summarize or encompass his life, but they will have to do. Tony was born in Chaput Hughes, to Seconda and Eugenie, in the summer of 1921. He served his country as a guard at the POW camp in Monteith during WWII. Tony married Doreen Kramp in 1950, and they soon brought Donna and Louise into the world. Tony started with a laundry on Kirkland Street, then ran the Queen’s Hotel for decades, and ended up with the old Lakeshore Mine bunkhouse, which became the famous Don Lou Motel, named for his daughters. He also served a lively term on town council in the ’80s. Tony seemed to genuinely like people. He loved to laugh, always spoke his mind, had his own take on life, and he made you feel welcome; a true gentleman. Even at 5′ 3″, Tony seemed larger than life, but of course no one is, and life decided to take him back at 8 o’clock in the morning, a time when Tony might have said: “I was just going to bed!” He didn’t seem too happy about it either, but life is what it is, and it does what it wants. Godspeed, Tony. Pre-deceased by his parents, one sister Valia(Joe) and his niece Diana, Tony leaves Paula, his wife and partner of 44 years, his daughters Donna(Denis) and Louise(Ross), stepsons John(Lisa) and Laurier(Sheena), his loving niece Gloria, and his beloved dog Emma, as well as grandkids, great-grandkids, and relatives too many to name here. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to TPR and the Northern Cancer Association. A Celebration of Life luncheon will be held at HHN on Saturday, October 10, 2015, from 11 a.m. to at least 2 p.m.Offer Condolence for the family of Tony Poloni

Dear Paula, Donna, Louise and extended family members. Our deepest sympathy on the loss of a husband, father and grandfather. Helen, a long time Queens Hotel and Don Lou Motel employee, friend and resident of TPR will miss the daily pleasantries exchanged with Tony. Chris, (Helen’s daughter) will miss seeing Tony taking in the afternoon sun at the front entrance of TPR and asking “how is your mother”. Spending many evening at TPR, I would notice Tony roaming the Teck and Macassa wings or socializing with the evening staff. At times, I would bring Tony into mothers room and we would reminisce about the many years gone by. Tony’s infectious smile will be greatly missed by all. Helen, Chris and Jane.

My sincere condolences to Paula and all of Tony’s family.
Sad to lose another hometown pioneer. Tony was always so gracious. Donna and Louise, I have so many memories of your father. I used to see him when I passed the Queen’s as a little kid when we lived on McCamus. He would always say a warm hello. Do you remember when he invited all the kids from the dance classes to join you to see a private afternoon performance by Joey Hollingsworth, the tap dance at the Queen’s . I wonder what he thought when the drinking age was lowered and the Queen’s filled up with unescorted teenage girls. The bands were great. Often when I went home to visit my parents would take me to the Don Lou and it was always wonderful to see Tony again and his wife Paula. We spent the last New Year’s Eve with my Mom at the Don Lou. Colleen Smith Vancouver BC (Daughter of Betty and Eddy Smith)
I wish to express our condolences for your loss. Louise, your father was an amazing man, it will stay always in our memories. All the best from Ana, Bibi and Bogdan Steiu

Tony always had a smile when ever we visited the restaurant. When Brian 1st moved to Kirkland Lake in early 1993 he stayed at the Don Lou and Tony was a great host. We often talk about our time in Kirkland and Tony’s name always comes up. We have fond memories of both Tony and Paula. Our sincere condolences. Dear Paula, Donna and Louise I was so sorry to hear about Tony. He was a great friend of my dad’s and I appreciated him reminding me of that every time I saw him. I loved his stories and his unwavering love for Kirkland Lake! I had some good visits and laughs with him over the past few years with his TPR roommate Dominic D’Andrea. I often said that the things what went on in that room would have made for an award winning reality TV series! Priceless…. I will never forget him! Keep the memories alive…. Bev xo
