Smith, James (Jim),

SMITH, JAMES (JIM),

2021

In loving memory of Mr. James (Jim) Smith, February 20, 1941 – April 19, 2018.It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jim on Thursday April 19, 2018 at the Kirkland Lake Extendicare. Jim will forever be remembered by his brother John (Paulette) Smith, his godson Jeffrey (Monique) MacDonald, his niece Elizabeth (David) Hepworth, nephew Chris (Kali) Smith as well as numerous other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Fern (MacDonald) and James Smith, his brother Paul Smith, and his grandparents Elizabeth and Archie MacDonald. Jim had an unconditional love and devotion to his cherished family and friends. He was well known for his active involvement with the Cochrane Boy Scouts, the Royal Canadian Legion and many other local organizations who benefited from his fund raising efforts. Jim was retired from the CNR and for many years entertained Cochranites with Jim’s Disco. Jim loved his annual trips to Barbados and his hunting trips with the Beaton family. Jim also loved to entertain at his home. His garage parties of the 70’s and 80’s are stuff of legends and the sound of his idol Johnny Cash could often be heard blaring on 15th avenue, serving as entertainment and as a beacon for those searching for their missing partners. The family would like to take this opportunity to thank all of those who have cared for Jim over the past 4 years. Sincerest thanks to the Kirkland Lake Extendicare, Kirkland Lake Hospital, Cochrane Villa Minto, Lady Minto Hospital, Red Cross, French Family Funeral Home and those cherished friends and family members who took the time to visit him and comfort him. The family would also like to say a special thank you to cousin Lorie (Bigeau) for all she has done and to close friends Richard Moore and Don Definney for helping the family through this somber time.Memorial Service:

To know know Jim was an honor. He was the apple of my fathers eye and he lovingly provided a home for our grandmother in the latter years of her life . He organized a MacDonaldreunion in Cochrane some years back and it was a great time had by all . And now he can celebrate his new life with all his loved ones that went to the Kingdom ahead of him . You were loved and never will be forgotten
