Stevenson family
Sending my love and thoughts during this difficult time. Shirley was a vibrant, caring, intelligent and of course, witty woman. I am thankful to have met her on my journey.
It is with great sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Shirley (Swanson) Stevenson, on Tuesday, October 24th, at Teck Pioneer Residence, at age 87.
Shirley was the youngest of 12 children to Martha and Edward Swanson of Tarzwell. Predeceased by her parents, 11 siblings/spouses: Winnifred (Ernest) Nelson, Laura (Charlie) Wallace, Myrtle (Lachlan) MacLachlan, Ellen (Fyfe) Matheson, Claude (Nora) Swanson, Mildred (Peter) Morin, Gordon (Frances) Swanson, Alvina (Charlie) Labelle, Austin (Norma) Swanson, Hilda (Howie) Barrer, and Kenneth (Kylli) Swanson. Shirley also lost the love of her life, Edwin (Ted) Stevenson, in1992 and son James (Jim) Stevenson in 2022. Shirley is survived by sisters-in-law Gurneth Hoddy and Jean Stephenson. Mom Shirley leaves behind her loving daughters/spouses: Kim (Mitch) Moreau and Susan (Gerd) Morrow. Nana Shirley will forever be remembered by her grandsons/spouses: Matthew (Samantha) Moreau, Gregory (Lena) Morrow, Darcy (Carly) Moreau, and James Stevenson. Great Nana Shirley’s memory will be kept alive for Lenni, Vivienne, Jack, Leon, and Camille. Aunt Shirley was admired and loved by her many, many nieces and nephews. The visits and phone calls were immensely appreciated by aunt Shirley!
Many great friendships were created and nurtured over Shirley’s lifetime in Kirkland Lake. Convincing Shirley to share a good story or two was never a problem, as her mind remained sharp until the end.
The family wishes to thank Chaplain Janice for her presence and spiritual guidance. Also, the family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to all staff at TPR for the genuine care and compassion that Mom received while she resided there. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
You have cleared the final hurdle and you are now reunited with Dad and Jim. Gone from our sight, but never from our hearts.
We love you Mom. Rest in peace.
Should you wish to donate in Shirley’s memory, your gift would be greatly appreciated by: Teck Pioneer Residence or the Encore Club.

I am SO very sorry for your loss. Heartfelt condolences to you and all Shirley’s family and friends from me, Brenda and Cheryl. Shirley always had a lovely smile for everyone. She was so nice. Always thought so highly of her. RIP Shirl.
Kim and Sue…. Shirley was the face for hockey moms for me. I guess driving around ontario and such in that blue station wagon with Jimmy and your folks (and probably the whole team at different times) was what did.
I might have had a crush on her also at age … 9…lol… she was so pretty and kind.
My deepest condolences to you both.
May your fond memories carry you through this tough time. Sending hugs and prayers
