DURRELL, Robert Hugh

2015 - 2015

Durrell, Robert Hugh In memory of Robbie Durrell, age 71 who passed away peacefully, after a short illness at Temiskaming Hospital on Saturday September 5, 2015 with his loving friends Darren, Carol and Shelbey Hearn and Lindsay Bourassa by his side. During that week, the support of Judy Kidd, Dr. Don Davies and Dr. Ryan Sayer and the staff at Temiskaming Hospital was very comforting. Robbie was born on June 20, 1944 to Sam and Colleen Durrell. Although cerebral palsy made his life difficult, his quick wit, stubbornness and determination helped make his life bearable. He used to get around town on his adult trike, attending hockey games, concerts, doing his own errands and groceries or just taking in the events and sights in town. He shoveled his own snow, cut his own grass and tended his raspberry patch up until he no longer could. After his parents passed away, Robbie lived on his own. He earned eight university credits through distant learning, wrote book reviews for the library and Minor Hockey reports for the newspaper. Robert was an inspiration to many and his kind, gentle spirit will forever be engrained in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Rob, an only child, was predeceased by his mother Colleen in 1980 and father Sam in 1990. Left to mourn his passing is his dear friend of 51 years, Carol (Kidd) Hearn and her family, the Kidd family. As per Robbie's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no service. Burial will be at the New Liskeard Valleyview Cemetery with his parents, private graveside service.
