BLACKBURN, Robert (Bob)

2023

It is with profound sadness that the family announces the passing of Robert William Henry (Bob) Blackburn. After a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer, Bob passed away peacefully at his home in Chamberlain on May 20, 2023 at the age of 81, surrounded and lovingly supported by his family.

Bob is predeceased by his loving wife and companion Cherryl (Wells), sons Robert and Jeffrey Blackburn, brother in law Don Church, Earl Craig, Raymond Bate, Ron Trumble, Ralph Clarke, Al Keizer, Greg Wells, and sister in laws Wendy and Mary-Ann, his parents Phillip and Bertha Blackburn, and parents in law, Eugene (Gene) & Inez Wells.

Left to mourn his passing are his beloved daughter Lisa (Darren Porritt), his grandchildren Kendra “Maggie”, Kelsey (Alex), Ashley (André), Amber (Ryan), Jordan Porritt, Christopher, Shawn, and Amanda Blackburn, and siblings Elizabeth “Betty”, Ardon “Jake”, Ruth (Barry), Gerry (Marion), Myrna, Murray, and Doug (Sharon). Also, sadly missed by many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Bob was a lifelong resident of Chamberlain- farming and working the land he cherished with his brother Murray, serving on the township council, and captaining the many competitively successful Chamberlain Flyers fastball teams. He will be sadly missed by all that knew him as a friend, the community at large, and by the local farming fraternity.

Consistent with Bob’s wishes, a private family service will be held at the Timiskaming Funeral Cooperative in Englehart, @ 11:00 am Tuesday, May 23, 2023. Internment to follow at the Englehart cemetery. Memorial contributions to the Wheelchair Bus, the House of Kin, or a charity of your choice will be gratefully acknowledged”.

All the Blackburn family but especially to Gerry, Myrna and Murray (my schoolmates)

I just heard of Bob's passing tonight and am very saddened by your loss and by learning of Bob's suffering. I know that I have not seen you for many years, and am completely unknown to the younger generations including you Lisa, but I count you as dear friends and near kin from my past. I have many precious memories going back to when "Bobby" was 11 years old. After Gerry left for high school, Bobby was destined to become our Wawbewawa school's favourite ball pitcher with Silas Grant his spare, brother Murray playing short stop, Frankie Walker playing 2nd base, and me, Ruth Story, 1st base (I think Lloyd Milks played 3rd most the time). By the time Bobby was in grade 7 he was the leader of our older boys, a hero to our younger boys and a favourite of the girls. Even when he was a boy in public school and a teenager in high school I was impressed by how hard he worked and by his and dedication to his family and their dairy farm.
He added a lot to many lives including mine.
May God be your comfort at this time of great loss,
Dr. Ruth( Story) Nelson
