Gérald Langlois,

GéRALD LANGLOIS,

2021

Gerald “Gerry” Ubald Langlois passed away at Jordan Lake on Saturday, May 12, 2012. Gerry was predeceased by his parents Laurette Beaulé (1976) & Jean-Paul Langlois (1964); great nephews Francois Langlois (1976), Richard Matthew Widdifield) (1986) and brother in law Arnold “Arney” Widdifield (2003). He is survived by his siblings Jean-Guy Langlois (Lise Grandbois) and Lucette Langlois (Mark Rastin); nieces Tina-Marie Kmyta (Steve) and Sylvie Langlois (Luc Beaudoin); nephews Richard Widdifield, Shawn Widdifield (Joanne Juranic), Trevor Widdifield (Josie Laricella) Barry Widdifield (Susie Patenaude) and Richard Langlois (friend Nathalie Guimond) and Lucky (his feline) which was a major part of his life. Gerry will also be remembered by Cindy Burns and Patricia Gaebel. He began working at the age of 16 for Purity Bakery on Hudson Bay and then with Weston Bakery until its closure. Gerry then took on work at our local mall as janitor until his retirement. He was a conscientious employee and loved interacting with customers. Gerry was an outdoor enthusiast always available to lend a helping hand whenever needed, especially at Jordan Lake where he spent hours clearing the environment and making trails for the cottagers to enjoy. Although Gerry remained a bachelor his whole life, he had many friends who always included him in their celebrations and will be missed by his many friendships he created during his 40+ years at the cottage. The family has fond childhood memories of blueberry picking and swimming at Jordan Lake. Gerry never forgot your birthday and you could be sure to get a phone call on your special daytexting was not his means of communication. A gentle soul, animal lover, Gerry should be an example to all of his friends and family. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Monette & French Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 from 1:00 followed by a Funeral Service in the Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 p.m. Gerry will be laid to rest in the Kirkland Lake Cemetery at a later date. Life at ‘Camp Happy’ just won’t be the same without our Fire Chief. He was always around to make sure the ‘youngsters’ didn’t have their fires too big and wouldn’t hesitate to step in with the handy poker pole to adjust the flames and throw more wood on when needed. You could set your watch as to when it was ok weather to start spending nights once Gerry arrived and set up camp. It was a guarantee every Friday night when we arrived that his blinds would be open, his ATV parked in his driveway and his cat sitting in it’s favorite spot in the window watching the comings and goings of the cottagers. We will always be grateful for the time he spent with our youngest Quin. Quin has always been an early riser, as was Gerry, and they would spend the early morning hours together eating toast and wandering around the camp and ‘working’ together keeping the trails clean of debris. Gerry will be greatly missed by everyone who had the privilege of meeting him. He was one in a million.

My oh my Gerry, you have given us one last surprise! What a gentle soul that we have had the privilege and honor to know & come to love, for the last 31 years at “Heaven on Earth”. Saddened that we have lost our Mayor and Fire Marshall all in one. Our little community was small in numbers and now will have to go on-one less. There is not a moment yet, as we walk the camp grounds that you are not in our thoughts and stories. In every corner, behind every tree and certainly looking down the road, do we not see you. We keep saying what a beautiful place to have shared our lives together with many feasts, many celebrations and many memories. Saddened that I will never hear “Happy Mother’s Day Pat” again. Rest in peace my friend “and all that” Kevin & Patti

It is with great sadness to hear that Gerry has passed away. I was sure he would have out lived us all. He was a kind man who loved the great outdoors, the animal kingdom and would give you the shirt off his back if need be. He will surely be missed by all who knew him. I will miss Gerry’s wet kisses, his million dollar smile and his annual telephone call to wish me a Merry Christmas and of course to chat about the weather and what I was up too. I am truly sorry I never got to see him before he left us. My heart goes out to his family and his many friends he has left behind. It was an honor to have Gerry as a friend and a part of my life, even for a short time.
